About the role

Wise is building a global network for money movement and we are looking for a senior engineer to help establish our new engineering hub in Hyderabad. You will lead technical strategy for the APAC region, focusing on scaling our infrastructure and building solutions that simplify international finance. In this capacity, you will own the end to end technical lifecycle of critical products serving millions of users across diverse markets. You will be responsible for setting the architectural vision that ensures systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives. The role requires a balance of deep technical execution and high level strategic thinking to solve complex problems. You will act as a key decision maker in technology choices that shape the future of the APAC organization. This position is pivotal in defining the engineering standards and practices for the new hub.

What you'll do

• Architect and guide the implementation of scalable systems to support diverse APAC markets while reducing technical debt.
• Build and maintain automation tools that integrate LLMs to increase regional operational efficiency.
• Manage the product observability stack to identify performance gaps and drive growth.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in Java 17 and the Spring framework.
• Proven experience with microservice architectures.
• Proficiency in relational and non-relational database schema design and query optimization.
• Experience with web development using JavaScript frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering projects and influence business outcomes.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical strategy to non technical stakeholders.
• Experience with CI/CD frameworks.
• Background in technical leadership, including performance management and coaching.
• A track record of delivering high impact projects in fast paced and ambiguous environments.
