What you'll do
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates for distribution and transmission projects, including labor, materials, and equipment.
- Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to prepare accurate estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to understand project scope and requirements, ensuring all estimates reflect the latest project information.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions and gather data necessary for accurate estimations.
- Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to create detailed and precise cost breakdowns.
- Prepare and present estimates to stakeholders, including clients and internal teams, ensuring clarity and transparency in the estimation process.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures, providing regular updates to project managers and adjusting estimates as necessary.
- Assist in the development of bid proposals and participate in the bidding process, ensuring competitiveness and compliance with client requirements.
- Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure estimates are current and competitive.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, revisions, and project documentation for future reference and audits.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to source materials and negotiate pricing with suppliers, contributing to cost-effective project execution.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior estimators, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for distribution and transmission projects, preferably within the energy sector.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution and transmission systems, including relevant codes and regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all estimates.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly to various stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for site assessments as needed.
Nice to have
- Certification as a Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar credential.
- Experience with renewable energy projects, such as solar or wind, is a plus.
- Knowledge of local and state regulations related to electrical distribution and transmission.
- Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, can be an asset in our diverse work environment.

- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software to interpret project plans and specifications.
- Advanced problem-solving skills to address challenges that arise during the estimation process.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
