About the role
You will own the end to end lifecycle of commercial agreements that power WHOOP's subscription and partnership engine. You will translate complex commercial intent into clear, enforceable legal structures while protecting the company's brand and long term trust. This role requires you to operate at the intersection of legal rigor and commercial speed, removing friction for go to market teams without compromising compliance. You will design the frameworks that let smart people move fast, documenting decisions so the business can scale predictably. You will become the primary legal partner for revenue critical initiatives, advising on everything from data usage to partnership economics. You will challenge assumptions, simplify language, and reframe constraints as design parameters rather than roadblocks. Most importantly, you will help ensure that every contract, policy, and process reflects WHOOP's commitment to performance, integrity, and member centricity.

What you'll do
Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad spectrum of commercial agreements, including vendor, SaaS, technology, marketing, partnership, procurement, and services arrangements.
Partner with sales, marketing, product, and operations to shape deal structures, membership offers, and commercial terms that protect WHOOP while advancing strategic priorities.
Design, implement, and iterate on scalable contract infrastructure, including playbooks, clause libraries, templates, and self service guidance that reduce cycle time and increase consistency.
Champion the adoption of automation and AI enabled tools to streamline contracting, risk assessment, and knowledge retrieval, while maintaining rigorous quality standards.
Interpret and communicate complex legal concepts related to intellectual property, data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance to non legal stakeholders.
Evaluate counterparties, assess risks, and propose practical mitigations so that commercial opportunities can advance without unnecessary delay.
Develop training materials and reference resources that empower commercial teams to navigate legal requirements confidently and independently.
Collaborate with product, finance, and revenue operations to model financial impacts of contract terms, incentives, and renewal structures.
Serve as the primary point of contact for internal inquiries during transactions, providing timely, clear, and actionable advice.
Partner with the broader Legal organization on strategic programs, policy updates, and cross functional initiatives that underpin WHOOP's long term growth.
Contribute to the evolution of the global commercial legal function by documenting processes, capturing learnings, and improving handoffs between teams.
Identify and track key performance indicators for the commercial legal function, such as turnaround time, risk reduction, and stakeholder satisfaction.
Support the design of offer letters, membership agreements, and consumer facing terms that balance clarity, compliance, and conversion.
Represent WHOOP in discussions with vendors, partners, and service providers to secure favorable terms while preserving critical relationships.
Requirements
J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
3 to 5 years of relevant legal experience, including experience at a nationally recognized law firm and or an in house legal department supporting commercial transactions.
Demonstrated experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of commercial agreements with increasing levels of autonomy.
Proven ability to balance legal risk with practical business considerations and deliver actionable advice in a fast paced environment.
Strong interest in building and improving legal processes, playbooks, and operational infrastructure to support a scaling business.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across cross functional teams.
Highly organized, detail oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Experience supporting technology, consumer products, healthcare, or subscription based businesses is a plus.
Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day to day tasks, ensuring AI assisted work aligns with the same high quality standards as personal contributions.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
