What you'll do
- Lead the validation process for various risk models, including credit, market, and operational risk, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Develop and implement validation methodologies and frameworks that align with industry best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data science, risk management, and compliance, to gather necessary data and insights for model validation.
- Conduct thorough assessments of model performance, including back-testing and stress testing, to identify any weaknesses or areas for improvement.
- Prepare detailed validation reports that summarize findings, provide recommendations, and communicate results to senior management and stakeholders.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends to ensure that validation practices remain compliant and relevant.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
- Participate in the development of new models by providing insights and feedback during the design phase, ensuring that validation considerations are integrated from the outset.
- Support the risk management team in developing risk appetite frameworks and limit structures based on validated models.
- Facilitate training sessions for stakeholders on model validation processes and findings to enhance understanding and transparency.
- Engage with external auditors and regulators during reviews, providing necessary documentation and explanations regarding model validation activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the risk management framework by identifying opportunities for enhancing model governance and validation processes.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in finance, mathematics, statistics, or a related field; a master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA, FRM) is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in risk model validation or a related field within the financial services or fintech industry.
- Strong understanding of risk modeling techniques and methodologies, including statistical analysis and machine learning approaches.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SAS, and experience with data analysis tools and software.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and develop a team effectively.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to risk management, such as Basel III or local regulations.
Nice to have
- Experience in the fintech sector, particularly in areas related to digital banking or lending.
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms for model development and validation.
- Previous experience working with external auditors or regulatory bodies.
