About the role

Webai is building the first distributed AI infrastructure for personalized AI. This role focuses on developing high-performance web and desktop applications, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and support real-time communication. You will contribute to core products and apply AI-native engineering principles. You will partner closely with product and design to translate complex business requirements into robust software solutions. A significant portion of your work will involve architecting and maintaining both frontend and backend components within a distributed environment. You will be responsible for implementing reliable real-time communication layers that connect users to AI services seamlessly. This position requires a deep commitment to writing maintainable code and applying AI-native engineering practices to every feature. You will play a key role in shaping the long-term technical direction of the platform.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to deconstruct business requirements and define technical specifications for new features.
• Architect, build, and maintain high-performance web and desktop applications using modern frameworks and native technologies.
• Design, implement, and oversee CI/CD pipelines within GitLab to automate testing, linting, and deployment processes.
• Produce clean, scalable, and maintainable codebases while writing comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Conduct thorough code reviews to uphold code quality, share knowledge, and identify potential risks or improvements.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs and performance issues across development, staging, and production environments.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks, and propose actionable improvements to system architecture and development workflows.
• Architect sophisticated state management solutions to handle complex application states and user interactions efficiently.
• Engineer high-throughput data handling systems, implementing advanced caching strategies and real-time update mechanisms.
• Guide and mentor engineering peers on best practices, system design patterns, and performance optimization techniques.
• Lead critical architectural discussions and contribute strategic technical insights to influence long-term product roadmaps.
• Integrate backend services and APIs, ensuring secure and efficient data flow between distributed components and AI models.
• Optimize application responsiveness and stability through meticulous debugging and performance profiling techniques.
• Document technical designs and processes to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainability for current and future teams.

Requirements

• Possess a minimum of 5 years of professional experience building applications with JavaScript or TypeScript in a production setting.
• Demonstrate a strong ability to design and build scalable applications that handle growth in users and data effectively.
• Show expert-level proficiency in HTML, CSS, SCSS, and TypeScript for developing complex user interfaces.
• Have hands-on experience with real-time communication protocols such as WebSockets or MQTT for live data synchronization.
• Exhibit strong proficiency in unit testing and end-to-end testing frameworks, with a portfolio of tests built using Cypress.
• Hold experience working with relational databases like PostgreSQL or non-relational databases such as MongoDB.
• Show advanced proficiency in CI/CD pipeline implementation and management using GitLab and related DevOps tools.
• Possess excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to navigate ambiguous technical challenges.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset essential for working within cross-functional teams.
• Have deep expertise in state management patterns and libraries such as Redux or Zustand, including experience optimizing complex UI interactions.
• Have a proven track record of designing and implementing scalable data fetching, caching, and synchronization strategies.
• Show evidence of leading technical initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders, and actively promoting engineering best practices.
• Have experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of technical excellence and learning within the team.
• Understand the constraints and trade-offs involved in building distributed systems and edge-computing architectures.
• Exhibit strong ownership of code quality, testing standards, and documentation practices.
