About the role
You will own the technical leadership and execution of water and wastewater treatment process design projects from initial client consultation through final construction support. You will translate complex client requirements into detailed engineering specifications that ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. You will mentor junior engineers by providing guidance, review, and constructive feedback to elevate the overall capability of the water team. You will act as a key technical consultant for both internal stakeholders and external clients to align project goals with practical engineering solutions. You will drive the implementation of sustainable and resilient treatment processes that optimize resource recovery and minimize environmental impact. You will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate process design with structural, mechanical, and instrumentation disciplines. You will maintain a rigorous focus on deliverable quality, ensuring all documentation meets the highest standards of accuracy and clarity. You will champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance existing methodologies and adopt innovative technologies within the firm's practice areas.

What you'll do
Lead the development of comprehensive process engineering packages for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Perform detailed calculations and modeling for unit processes including clarification, filtration, biological treatment, disinfection, and sludge handling and dewatering.
Develop design specifications, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs that clearly define system layouts, equipment selections, and performance criteria.
Evaluate and select treatment technologies and process alternatives based on client needs, regulatory requirements, and lifecycle cost analysis.
Conduct thorough assessments of existing facility conditions to identify deficiencies and formulate rehabilitation or expansion strategies.
Prepare cost estimates and technical reports that communicate project scope, risks, and investment implications to clients and project teams.
Collaborate with permitting authorities to ensure all designs meet local, state, and federal environmental regulations without delay.
Provide technical support during construction phases through bid reviews, shop drawing evaluations, and field problem-solving.
Apply rigorous quality assurance and quality control procedures to all deliverables to maintain consistency and compliance.
Utilize advanced process simulation software to validate designs and demonstrate the performance of proposed treatment systems.
Champion the integration of energy-efficient solutions and water conservation strategies into every project concept.
Mentor and guide cross-functional team members to foster professional growth and improve overall project execution.
Translate complex engineering data into clear and concise presentations for clients, stakeholders, and technical reviewers.
Drive the adoption of innovative treatment methodologies that enhance sustainability and operational resilience.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution.
Possess a Professional Engineer license with active status in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Bring a minimum of fifteen years of progressive experience in water and wastewater treatment process engineering.
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment processes and design standards.
Show a strong track record in facility design, preparation of detailed engineering specifications, and application of treatment technologies.
Exhibit superior written, verbal, and presentation skills for communicating technical information to diverse audiences.
Display robust organizational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple project tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
Commit to working effectively within a collaborative team environment and supporting the professional development of colleagues.
Possess the ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical engineering requirements.
Demonstrate proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and relevant engineering design software.
Have experience preparing cost estimates and conducting lifecycle cost analyses for treatment facilities.
Show a history of successful project delivery in the water and wastewater sector.
Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges during the design and construction phases.
Be willing to travel domestically for project site visits, client meetings, and industry conferences as required.

Experience with biological nutrient removal processes and energy recovery systems.
Knowledge of water reuse and stormwater management design principles.
Familiarity with LEED or other sustainability rating systems relevant to water infrastructure.
Experience mentoring early-career engineers or leading small technical teams.

This role operates under a flexible hybrid-remote work schedule after 30 days of employment, allowing a blend of office and remote work.
Domestic travel may be required to visit project sites, meet with clients, or attend professional development opportunities.
