About the role
Vulcan Elements is on the lookout for a dedicated Equipment and Tool Installation Manager to lead the installation of specialized equipment used in the processing of rare earth magnets. This pivotal role involves collaborating closely with equipment manufacturers, overseeing the selection of contractors, and ensuring that installations are executed successfully on-site. The position is essential for transitioning from construction to operational readiness, demanding a solid background in managing capital projects and initiating manufacturing processes.

What you'll do
- Oversee the complete installation process of equipment, starting from initial discussions with manufacturers to the final handover of systems ready for operation.
- Coordinate the activities of contractors, ensuring they adhere to established timelines and maintain high-quality standards throughout the installation process.
- Collaborate with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to clarify installation specifications and prepare the site for the arrival of equipment.
- Create detailed installation packages that encompass utility layouts and necessary safety documentation to ensure compliance and safety.
- Manage the selection of contractors and negotiate contracts, ensuring that all safety and performance criteria are met.
- Track the progress of installations, proactively addressing risks and ensuring that milestones in construction are achieved.
- Facilitate site acceptance testing and oversee the punch-list process to ensure all tasks are completed before commissioning begins.
- Ensure that all installation activities comply with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain clear communication with all stakeholders, including engineering teams and contractors, to ensure alignment and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Document all installation processes and maintain records for future reference and compliance audits.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on installation best practices and safety protocols.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the installation of industrial equipment, capital project management, or manufacturing startup processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage contractors across various scopes of work, including both mechanical and electrical installations.
- Experience with site acceptance testing or the commissioning of complex industrial systems is essential.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and utility layouts.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills to effectively manage interactions with OEM vendors, contractors, and engineering teams in a fast-paced project environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of site EHS requirements and the ability to enforce safety management practices among contractors.
Nice to have
- Experience in the construction of greenfield facilities or the startup of manufacturing operations, ideally through to the production handover phase.
- Familiarity with factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) methodologies.
- A degree or equivalent training in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or process engineering is preferred; additional certifications such as PMP, OSHA 30, or rigger certification are beneficial.
- Previous experience in developing installation functions, including the selection of vendors and onboarding of installation teams.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to equipment installation and safety.

- In-depth understanding of safety protocols and compliance measures necessary for industrial environments.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation and utility specifications to ensure accurate installation processes.
