Technical Account Manager
Job description
About the role
Technical Account Manager guides enterprise accounts to adopt and derive long-term value from cloud communications platforms. This role operates as a strategic partner that connects technical implementation details to business outcomes for a defined portfolio. Success depends on fluent API knowledge and the ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Sales roles connect a company's product with the customers who need it. Representatives research accounts, run demos, handle objections, and close deals. The work is quota driven and moves quickly. Strong sellers combine listening skills with product knowledge and steady follow through. Sales roles reward consistent activity and honest qualification of deals. Most companies use a defined sales process, and reps are trained on it before being left on their own.
Key facts
What you'll do
Customer health is protected through Quarterly Business Reviews, proactive risk identification, and cross-functional collaboration with Technical Experts, Product, and Engineering. Revenue and direct margin for your book of business grow because you accurately forecast, retain customers, and expand usage across the portfolio.
Requirements
Fluent English plus German or French is mandatory for customer conversations. You bring 5+ years of experience in Technical Account Management, Customer Success, or a similar strategic customer-facing role with a strong technical background in APIs or developer-facing products. Deep, hands-on knowledge of CPaaS or API platforms covers messaging (SMS, WhatsApp Business Platform, RCS), Voice/VoIP, Video, and Authentication/Verify solutions. You understand REST APIs, webhooks, SDKs, and software integration patterns well enough to read documentation and troubleshoot alongside customers. A documented track record of managing and growing complex enterprise accounts with significant ARR responsibility supports your credibility. You communicate in-depth technical concepts to developers and engineers, and you translate those same concepts clearly for business and executive audiences. A data-driven mindset uses customer health scores, usage analytics, and engagement metrics in Salesforce, Gainsight, or equivalent to identify risk and growth opportunities. You navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments and drive alignment across competing priorities.
Nice to have
Direct experience at a CPaaS provider such as Vonage, Twilio, Sinch, Infobip, or MessageBird is a strong differentiator. Familiarity with conversational AI, chatbot platforms, or omnichannel engagement strategies adds depth. Knowledge of VoIP, SIP, or WebRTC protocols is beneficial. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field provides a foundation.
Practical notes
You are open to diverse backgrounds, and no perfect candidate is required; passion and the ability to make an impact matter. Typical interview steps
Sales hiring often includes a role play, a discovery call simulation, and a presentation. Candidates may be asked to pitch a product to a panel or handle a tough objection. Behavioral questions focus on past quota attainment and deal history. Energy and preparation matter. Interviewers often simulate the job in the interview itself, so be ready to run a short discovery call or demo. Practicing your own sales pitch out loud helps.
Good to know
Cloud communications platforms power digital transformation for brands across industries. Professionals in this role work with APIs, messaging channels, and real-time communication protocols. Data analytics and stakeholder management define success in customer-facing positions of this type.
Career growth
Sales careers can move from SDR or associate to account executive, senior AE, manager, and director roles. Some sellers move into partnerships, account management, or revenue operations. Compensation typically mixes a base with commission tied to results. High performers in sales typically move into larger accounts, team leadership, or sales operations. Quota history and references carry the most weight in promotion.
