VP, Product Management
Job description
About the role
Vestmark is seeking a VP, Product Management to own the strategy and roadmap for the portfolio management capabilities within the Vestmark platform and more specifically Vestmark VAST. VAST is Vestmark's direct indexing and tax-aware portfolio management platform, built to deliver "Personalized Investing at Scale." Managed by Vestmark Advisory Solutions (VAS), VAST combines a proprietary risk-based optimization engine with a rules-driven alerts and trading workflow to personalize and tax-manage thousands of accounts. This is a subject-matter-expert role: you will be the definitive product voice and decision-maker for how Vestmark's multi-sleeve, multi-manager portfolio construction, trading, and rebalancing tools work - and how those capabilities get delivered to the wealth management channel (broker-dealers, RIAs, TAMPs, and bank trust programs) as well as the asset managers and overlay managers who operate within them. The ideal candidate has built quantitative portfolio management technology solutions for asset managers and deeply understands how UMA sleeve structures, overlay trading, tax management, and rebalancing engines work in practice. You know the difference between sleeve-level performance attribution and household-level asset location rebalancing, you understand trading discretion at the account vs. sleeve level, and you can translate that operational fluency into a platform roadmap that scales across dozens of sponsor programs and thousands of accounts. You will partner closely with engineering and client delivery to design and ship systems that Portfolio Managers want to use, while ensuring those solutions are commercially viable and configurable for Vestmark's wealth management sponsor clients. Given the natural overlap between this role's product surface and Vestmark Advisory Solutions' (VAS) own portfolio management team, you will maintain a strong working relationship with VAS leadership to ensure the roadmap reflects real, day-to-day portfolio management needs.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and own the end-to-end product strategy, vision, and multi-year roadmap for UMA, SMA, and multi-sleeve portfolio construction, overlay trading, and rebalancing capabilities within the VAST platform.
Translate the operational realities of Portfolio Management - including trading discretion, sleeve versus account-level rebalancing, cash coordination across sleeves, tax overlay management, and composite and performance attribution - into clear, prioritized product requirements and user stories.
Act as the internal subject-matter authority on UMA structures such as sleeves, base sleeves, overlay managers, manager-traded sleeves, and flexible or custom models, and how they intersect with household-level asset location rebalancing logic.
Partner with engineering and design to architect scalable solutions that effectively serve both large wirehouse and broker-dealer UMA programs and the workflows of asset manager and overlay manager users.
Work directly with Portfolio Managers, overlay managers, and asset manager partners, both internal at VAS and external sponsor-side clients, to gather requirements, validate solutions, and run discovery sessions before and after delivery.
Maintain a strong working relationship with the Advisory Solutions (VAS) organization to ensure the product roadmap accurately reflects the needs of Vestmark's own Portfolio Management team as a proving ground for the broader wealth channel.
Define and prioritize the backlog for your product area, balancing strategic platform investments against client-specific requirements and regulatory-driven commitments.
Represent Vestmark's UMA and portfolio management capabilities in client and prospect conversations, RFPs, and executive business reviews, translating complex product concepts into clear narratives.
Partner with Sales, Relationship Management, and Client Delivery to ensure new and existing wealth management clients can successfully adopt and scale on the platform, driving adoption and expansion.
Stay current on industry trends in managed accounts, direct indexing, tax management, and multi-manager portfolio construction, and translate those trends into concrete platform investment decisions and roadmap priorities.
Contribute to the growth and development of Vestmark's core values of We Before Me, Positive Energy, Knowledge Explorer, and Own It in your day-to-day work.
Lead cross-functional initiatives that cut across product, engineering, client delivery, and sales to unblock critical workflows and improve the end-to-end user experience.
Synthesize feedback from diverse stakeholder groups into a coherent product narrative that guides execution teams and executive sponsors.
Champion data-driven decision making by defining and tracking product metrics, success indicators, and adoption signals to iterate on the roadmap.
Own the documentation and communication of product specifications, trade-offs, and rationale to ensure alignment across technical and business audiences.
Requirements
10+ years of experience in product management, portfolio management, or investment technology roles within the wealth management or asset management industry.
Deep understanding of managed account concepts: sleeves, overlay management, trading discretion (account vs. sleeve level), rebalancing engines, tax transition or tax-loss harvesting, and composite performance attribution.
Proven ability to translate complex operational and regulatory requirements into scalable product solutions and clearly defined backlogs.
Experience working with broker-dealer, RIA, and TAMP ecosystems and their technology integration patterns, APIs, and data models.
Strong comfort with quantitative concepts, risk and return metrics, and model evaluation in a portfolio management context.
Exceptional collaboration and influence skills to work effectively with engineering, design, sales, and client delivery stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate product vision, requirements, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment while managing multiple priorities and delivering results against demanding timelines.
Nice to have
Experience with direct indexing, tax-aware portfolio management, and model-construction workflows in a wealth technology context.
Familiarity with Vestmark VAST, advisory solutions, and existing portfolio management workflows at Vestmark.
Background working with regulated broker-dealer or institutional sales environments and their compliance considerations.
