Flow Traders seeks a Software Engineer (Trading Automation) within our Technology department in New York. This role focuses on developing applications that support our core business by enhancing data frameworks, automating workflows, and creating opportunities for greater efficiency and growth. You will contribute directly to company performance while collaborating closely with the global Trading Automation team and various departments. This collaboration provides a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end trading landscape, including functionality and integration across our ecosystem. Your work will involve designing and implementing solutions that bridge the gap between quantitative finance concepts and robust software execution. You will be expected to take ownership of complex problems that span multiple layers of the technology stack. The position demands a high level of curiosity and a drive to continuously improve existing systems. Ultimately, your contributions will help maintain the reliability and performance of critical trading infrastructure.

What you'll do
- Develop workflow automation processes aligned with business needs to reduce manual intervention and increase throughput.
- Design, create, and maintain data pipelines and data-intensive applications that ensure high quality and low latency.
- Write automated test cases, ensuring coverage of major edge cases to validate the correctness and stability of new features.
- Thoroughly document work, including technical and design specifications and operational guides to facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Deploy software applications to production using continuous integration and continuous deployment practices to ensure rapid and safe releases.
- Act as the first line of defense for operational support of delivered solutions, responding promptly to incidents and issues.
- Collaborate with both local and global stakeholders and team members to align on priorities and share best practices.
- Explore the use of LLMs to develop software and integrate solutions with existing systems to enhance capabilities and productivity.
- Analyze complex requirements and translate them into technical specifications that guide the development lifecycle.
- Optimize application performance and scalability to handle increasing volumes of data and user demands.
- Implement monitoring and logging strategies to gain visibility into system behavior and proactively identify issues.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to standards and to promote collective code ownership.
- Contribute to the definition and refinement of technical standards and architectural decisions within the team.
- Support the maintenance and evolution of legacy systems while driving initiatives for modernization.
Requirements
- Hold 5+ years of professional working experience in software development or a related field.
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of Git, SQL, Python, and Linux environments.
- Show familiarity with Airflow, Ansible, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS/Azure/GCP cloud platforms.
- Have experience using LLMs to develop software and integrate solutions with existing systems effectively.
- Exhibit excellent communication and writing skills to clearly articulate ideas and documentation.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency and the ability to adapt quickly.
- Possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to manage complex tasks.

Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in New York. The compensation for this role includes a base salary range and annual discretionary variable remuneration. Employment is contingent on successful completion of any required background checks. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for this role.
