What you'll do
- Design and implement technical solutions for Verkada's internal infrastructure, focusing on scalability and performance.
- Build and deliver enhancements to systems that support global transactions and shipping workflows across multiple regions.
- Improve system monitoring capabilities and establish reliable metrics to ensure data accuracy and operational integrity.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of user requirements to propose system improvements that streamline business operations.
- Lead projects from initial concept through to deployment, managing scope, timelines, and stakeholder communication.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
- Work with distributed teams to translate complex business processes into automated, reliable, and maintainable software systems.
- Optimize existing services to reduce latency, improve throughput, and enhance the overall reliability of critical business functions.
- Implement robust data processing pipelines to ensure that operational data is timely, consistent, and actionable for decision-makers.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies and services, with a focus on improving developer experience and system resilience.
- Collaborate with product managers, operations leaders, and other stakeholders to define success metrics and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain and evolve core infrastructure components to support the company's ambitious growth objectives in domestic and international markets.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on large-scale distributed systems and their operational challenges.
- Previous experience delivering customer-facing products or internal tools that have been used by real users in production environments.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic startup environment where priorities can change rapidly and independently.
- Strong interest in system observability and reliability, including logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting practices.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems principles, including consistency, fault tolerance, scalability, and network communication patterns.
- Experience with foundational AWS cloud services including Kubernetes, Fargate, Lambda, Airflow, Athena, DynamoDB, VPC, and EC2, and understanding their operational tradeoffs.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, with demonstrated ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
- Experience working in agile development environments using version control, code review, and continuous integration and delivery practices.
Nice to have
- Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, or e-commerce platforms, and understanding of how these systems support business operations.
