About the role
Become a vital member of the Connectivity Team at Verkada, where you will be responsible for crafting software and firmware for innovative hardware solutions that enhance physical security across more than 170 countries. This team is uniquely positioned within the company, managing everything from low-level embedded programming to cloud-based services. You will oversee the entire engineering process, from initial design and architecture to the deployment of production-ready products.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and sustain software and firmware for devices deployed in customer environments, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Take the lead on projects from the early stages of scoping and architectural design through to development, employing both test-driven and data-driven methodologies.
- Work closely with product management and various cross-functional teams to create features that align with user requirements and enhance product functionality.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers within the team, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
- Engage in backend service development and contribute to other components of the technology stack based on your interests and expertise.
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging of embedded systems to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share best practices with team members.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve product offerings and engineering practices.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience in the field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in an embedded engineering position, demonstrating a solid foundation in the field.
- Proficient in programming languages such as C, C++, or Go, with a strong emphasis on embedded systems.
- Proven ability to methodically debug complex issues and solve problems effectively.
- An eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies that are pertinent to product development.
- Availability to work onsite five days a week, contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Nice to have
- Experience in taking ownership of software features or projects from conception through to production launch, showcasing your ability to drive projects to completion.
- Practical experience with hardware products and familiarity with low-level communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, and UART.
- Knowledge of FreeRTOS and Embedded Linux, which would be beneficial for the role.
- A background in networking principles and wireless communication protocols, enhancing your ability to contribute to connectivity solutions.
- Experience with programming in Go and Python, adding versatility to your skill set.
- Capability to interpret schematics and apply fundamental electrical engineering concepts in your work.

- The estimated annual salary range for this position is between $180,000 and $300,000 USD, which may encompass base salary, bonuses, and equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
