Vercel is on the lookout for a meticulous and experienced professional to take charge of its global payroll functions as the organization continues to expand. In this role, you will be responsible for executing payroll across multiple jurisdictions while also focusing on enhancing processes. Collaboration with teams in Finance, Human Resources, and Legal will be crucial to ensure seamless operations.

What you'll do
- Oversee the complete payroll process for the United States, managing multi-state payroll on a bi-weekly and semi-monthly basis using ADP Workforce Now and Workday.
- Liaise with external vendors to facilitate payroll processing for employees based in Canada and Latin America.
- Ensure accuracy by reconciling payroll data between Workday HRIS and ADP Workforce Now, focusing on earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefits.
- Maintain compliance across 34 states in the U.S., which includes managing SUI/SIT registrations, local tax setups, and year-end reporting for W-2s and T4s.
- Administer payroll for Canadian employees, which encompasses handling source deductions, Records of Employment (ROEs), and adhering to provincial compliance regulations.
- Process payroll adjustments related to new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, and equity-related events.
- Identify and implement process enhancements to boost efficiency and ensure compliance in preparation for an IPO.
- Serve as a tier-2 escalation point for resolving employee inquiries related to payroll.
- Stay updated on changes in federal, state, and provincial tax legislation and implement necessary adjustments in payroll processing.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 to 7 years of experience in payroll, with at least 3 years dedicated to managing multi-state payroll for organizations with over 1,000 employees.
- Extensive expertise with ADP Workforce Now and Workday HRIS systems.
- Demonstrated experience in processing payroll for Canadian employees and managing associated provincial regulations.
- Strong grasp of U.S. payroll tax principles, including FICA, federal withholding, imputed income, and taxation of equity compensation such as RSUs, NSOs, and ISOs.
- Background in high-growth or pre-IPO tech companies is highly desirable.
Nice to have
- Certification as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP).
- Familiarity with equity management platforms like Carta or Morgan Stanley/Shareworks.
- Knowledge of global payroll vendors or Professional Employer Organization (PEO) structures in regions such as EMEA or APAC.
- Experience in developing internal payroll documentation, including runbooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and control measures.
- Previous experience with the Workday Payroll module is a plus.

- The salary range for this position in San Francisco is between $100,000 and $120,000, with adjustments based on location and individual experience.
- The total compensation package includes equity options, healthcare benefits, flexible paid time off, and a stipend for remote work expenses.
- Employees working in a hybrid model are expected to be in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.
