CNC Programmer
Job description
About the role
You will own the full lifecycle of advanced multi-axis machining programs for complex aerospace propulsion components from initial print review through first article and production support. You will interpret detailed engineering specifications and transform them into robust, efficient CNC code that meets strict quality and safety standards. You will partner directly with design and manufacturing engineers to influence build strategies, process flows, and manufacturability from prototype to volume. You will drive continuous improvement in shop practices, elevating quality, repeatability, and documentation for critical engine hardware. You will champion safety and compliance, ensuring all programming and machining activities adhere to strict aerospace quality and regulatory requirements. You will mentor less experienced machinists and programmers on best practices, tooling strategies, and problem-solving techniques for difficult materials. You will act as the primary technical link between engineering intent and the shop floor, ensuring timely resolution of programming and production issues. You will contribute to the development of manufacturing standards that define how high-performance propulsion hardware is produced at Venus.
Key facts
What you'll do
Evaluate engineering drawings and technical specifications to develop comprehensive CNC machining strategies for complex propulsion hardware.
Translate intricate 3D models and legacy toolpaths into optimized multi-axis programs that maximize tool life, surface finish, and dimensional control.
Implement advanced cutting strategies, speeds and feeds calculations, and adaptive techniques for hardened alloys and exotic materials used in rocket propulsion.
Lead first article inspection and dimensional verification, correlating measurement data with simulation outputs to validate program accuracy.
Develop and maintain detailed program documentation, setup sheets, and tooling lists that ensure clarity and repeatability across production shifts.
Optimize existing CNC routines to reduce cycle times, minimize scrap, and improve machine utilization across the manufacturing cell.
Collaborate with process engineers to select appropriate tooling, coolants, and fixturing solutions that enhance stability and surface integrity.
Support root cause analysis of machining defects, leading targeted experiments to isolate variables and implement verified corrective actions.
Coordinate closely with inspection and quality teams to ensure all programs align with blueprint requirements and regulatory standards.
Champion the adoption of modern CNC technologies, including high-speed machining, trochoidal milling, and high-torque contouring strategies.
Guide junior programmers and operators on best practices for toolpath validation, simulation checks, and safe machine operation.
Drive the documentation of work instructions and procedural updates required for AS9100 compliance and internal audits.
Partner with supply chain and purchasing to assess new materials and tooling solutions that improve performance and reduce lead times.
Contribute to the execution of manufacturing risk assessments, ensuring that critical programs are validated before release to production.
