The role is focused on leading the development of advanced avionics systems for next-generation aerospace platforms. You will be responsible for defining and implementing the hardware architecture that enables safe and reliable flight operations. The position requires deep expertise in avionics design, system integration, and test methodologies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate mission requirements into robust technical solutions. This is a hands-on leadership position where your engineering decisions will directly impact vehicle performance and mission success. What you'll do
- You will define and implement interfaces between flight components such as flight computers, sensors, actuators, power systems, and radios.
- You will design, build and fly your systems, ensuring they meet stringent performance and safety criteria.
- You will Lead the architecture, design, and selection of avionics hardware, including flight computers, sensors, power systems, and communication interfaces.
- You will Develop and maintain hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test environments to support software development, integration, and verification.
- You will Assess system risks and recommend mitigations, driving decisions that enhance reliability and safety.
- You will Own battery sizing and power system analysis, including load analysis, margins, thermal considerations, and mission profiles.
- You will Support system integration, ground testing, and flight testing, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis of anomalies.
- You will Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to define requirements, evaluate components, manage technical trade studies, and support procurement activities.
- You will Author and review technical documentation, including requirements specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), schematics, test plans, and verification reports.
- You will Ensure avionics designs meet aerospace standards, reliability, safety, and environmental requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- You will Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across avionics and flight systems teams, fostering growth and best practices.
- You will Use go programming language for developing tools, scripts, and applications that support avionics development and test workflows.
- You will Engage in hands-on prototyping and validation activities to verify designs in realistic operational conditions.
- You will Participate in end-to-end system-level integration efforts to align avionics behavior with vehicle-level objectives.
- You will Contribute to the development and execution of test strategies that validate system functionality and compliance.
Requirements
- You must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, as the role requires compliance with ITAR regulations.
- You must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- You must have demonstrated experience in avionics or flight systems development in aerospace, defense, or related high-tech industries.
- You must have a strong background in digital and analog circuit design, including schematic capture, PCB layout considerations, and debugging.
- You must be proficient with embedded systems, including firmware development, driver integration, and real-time operating systems.
- You must have experience defining and managing hardware and software interfaces using Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- You must have hands-on experience with test frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testbenches.
- You must have knowledge of power systems, including battery selection, load analysis, and thermal management principles.
- You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience with space or aviation industry standards and best practices.
- Familiarity with DO-178C or DO-254 processes is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety analysis methods such as FMEA or FTA.
- Exposure to go programming language for automation and test tools.
