Technical Recruiter
Job description
About the role
Valon is seeking a Technical Recruiter who will act as the primary engine for talent acquisition within the context of building an AI-native operating system for regulated finance. In this capacity, you will own the complete lifecycle for critical technical hires, ensuring that sourcing, assessment, and closing are executed with exceptional speed and precision. You will be a strategic partner to the engineering and product teams, providing market intelligence and data-driven insights to shape hiring strategies. The role demands a builder who treats recruiting methodology with the same rigor as software development, constantly measuring, iterating, and improving the funnel. You will be responsible for telling Valon's story in a way that resonates with world-class engineers, making them stop scrolling and pay attention to the mission. This is not a passive order-taking position; it requires high agency, intellectual curiosity, and the conviction to push back when expectations are misaligned with market realities.
Key facts
What you'll do
Drive end-to-end ownership of pipelines for engineering, product, and data roles, ensuring no candidate languishes in limbo and no hiring manager is left uninformed.
Function as a strategic advisor who challenges job descriptions, comp alignment, and interview loops based on data and market realities.
Champion the Valon thesis by deeply understanding how building the entire stack serves regulated finance, and translate this complex narrative into compelling stories for top-tier talent.
Obsess over the candidate experience, designing every interaction to be precise, human, and high-trust from initial outreach through onboarding.
Leverage AI as a core component of your workflow, experimenting with tools for sourcing, personalization, pipeline analysis, and automation to multiply your output.
Build recruiting as a product, creating repeatable and measurable playbooks for sourcing, interview loops, and dashboards that compound value over time.
Identify and mitigate bottlenecks within the interview process, acting as a guardian of quality and efficiency to ensure good candidates are not lost.
Partner closely with hiring managers to form independent convictions about what "great" looks like, rather than simply executing against predefined requirements.
Maintain resilience and momentum through ambiguity and rejection, keeping pipeline health active and moving forward even when progress stalls.
Use sharp data instincts to track metrics, spot emerging trends, and allow numbers to directly inform sourcing strategies and decision-making.
Cultivate communication skills that build trust across technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency at every stage.
Evaluate the effectiveness of every outreach touchpoint, refining messaging and channels to attract candidates who are mission-driven and technically excellent.
Continuously research the competitive landscape to understand talent supply and demand, adjusting playbooks to secure top candidates in a tight market.
Act as the voice of the candidate within the organization, advocating for an experience that reflects the high-trust and precision that Valon embodies.
Requirements
You possess a proven track record of closing technical roles, including engineering, product, and data positions within high-growth or complex environments.
You have a portfolio of AI experimentation you can discuss concretely, including specific tools you have tried, workflows you have automated, and a clear understanding of what produced results.
You demonstrate high agency by taking ownership of outcomes, fixing what is broken, and driving initiatives without needing to be constantly directed.
You excel at translating complex, technical, or regulated business concepts into narratives that attract and resonate with elite technical professionals.
You have sharp pattern recognition for identifying "great" across diverse technical disciplines, assessing both skill and cultural contribution.
You show resilience through consistent momentum, maintaining activity and optimism in the face of rejection, slow closes, and periods of ambiguity.
You possess strong data instincts, rigorously tracking metrics and using analytical insights to guide your sourcing, screening, and decision-making processes.
You communicate with clarity and precision, building trust through written and verbal exchanges with candidates, hiring managers, and cross-functional partners.
You are comfortable operating in environments that are still building processes, embracing ambiguity as a challenge rather than a barrier to effectiveness.
You understand the importance of compliance and discretion when discussing regulated industries, ensuring that sensitive information is handled with the utmost care.
You have a history of collaborating effectively with remote and cross-functional teams, aligning on goals without direct oversight.
You are deeply curious about technology and motivated by the mission of applying AI to transform highly regulated sectors.
You manage multiple priorities simultaneously, maintaining a high standard of quality while moving at speed to meet aggressive hiring goals.
You approach recruiting as a craft, constantly seeking feedback and opportunities to iterate on your methods and strategies.
Nice to have
Experience in the financial services or mortgage industry, providing context for the specific nuances of regulated environments.
A background in building or scaling startups, understanding the mindset of founders and early-stage teams.
Familiarity with technical interview methodologies and coding assessment platforms.
