About the role
The owns the end-to-end design and delivery of all site-specific infrastructure required to bring the first commercial nuclear plant online in Orangeville, Utah. This role is responsible for translating complex reactor requirements into practical, field-ready infrastructure solutions for civil, structural, architectural, and utilities systems. The hire will operate at the critical intersection of engineering design and construction execution, ensuring that plans are not only technically sound but also buildable and cost-effective. Success is defined by delivering construction-ready packages that improve cost and schedule with each iteration while building a high-performing internal engineering function. The Director will serve as the key integrator between reactor engineering teams and construction execution, driving first-of-a-kind iterations toward standardized, repeatable site designs. This position demands ownership of the full lifecycle, from initial concept through detailed design and into construction support. By leading this work, the hire will directly enable Valar Atomics to scale advanced nuclear power safely, reliably, and efficiently.

What you'll do
Lead the design and delivery of comprehensive site infrastructure packages, including civil, structural, architectural, and utilities engineering for the Orangeville pilot plant.
Translate complex reactor system requirements into constructable, field-ready infrastructure designs that minimize total installed cost and respect demanding schedules.
Directly manage external engineering partners, owning output quality, schedule adherence, and technical accuracy while driving strong working relationships.
Serve as the primary interface to construction and field teams, resolving real-time issues and ensuring design intent is maintained during installation.
Build and scale the internal infrastructure engineering capability by developing the team, establishing standards, and implementing robust systems and processes.
Drive iterative improvements in cost, schedule, and constructability across design generations, focusing on simplicity, clarity, and buildability.
Develop standardized, repeatable site design packages and templates that accelerate future projects and reduce dependency on external consultants.
Integrate closely with nuclear, mechanical, electrical, and piping engineering teams to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of all infrastructure systems.
Support permitting and local approvals by preparing high-quality technical documentation and responding promptly to regulatory queries and requests.
Select and manage vendors, consultants, and contractors to ensure performance, reliability, and adherence to project objectives and quality standards.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or a related field, or demonstrate equivalent hands-on experience through a proven track record of successful project delivery.
Bring 6-10+ years of delivering civil, structural, and site infrastructure projects that have been successfully constructed and commissioned.
Show a demonstrated track record of managing large-scale sites, major concrete and utility work, and multi-acre developments from concept through completion.
Possess experience taking projects from initial design through full construction, including proactive field support and effective resolution of on-site issues.
Prove the ability to directly manage external engineering firms, driving performance, constructability, and timely delivery without passive oversight.
Show strong knowledge of site development, utilities, grading, drainage, and building systems applicable to advanced industrial and nuclear environments.
Have experience working within Utah or similar regulatory environments, including familiarity with local permitting and approval processes.
Demonstrate the ability to own technical deliverables both as an individual contributor and as a leader, maintaining high standards under pressure.
Display a commitment to safety, quality, and execution excellence in all aspects of design and delivery for nuclear infrastructure.
Nice to have
Experience with advanced nuclear systems, fuel fabrication facilities, or high-temperature industrial processes is preferred.
Background in modular or factory-based construction methods and prefabrication strategies is strongly encouraged.
Familiarity with digital tools such as BIM, 3D modeling, and integrated design platforms that support iteration and constructability reviews.
Proven success in reducing complexity, standardizing designs, and driving repeatability across multiple projects.
Experience collaborating with regulators, local authorities, and community stakeholders in a nuclear or industrial setting.
