About the role
The Vertical Farming Superintendent at Uprite Construction owns the full execution of all onsite construction activities, driving the project from initial mobilization through final turnover. This role is accountable for leading a highly technical team in a fast-paced environment where agricultural systems, climate control infrastructure, and automation must be delivered with precision. The hire will directly coordinate subcontractors, manage complex installations, and remove any obstacles that could impact the critical project schedule. Success in this position requires a strong field leader who upholds the highest safety standards while ensuring quality workmanship on every task. The Superintendent will act as the key liaison between the field and the office, translating project plans into actionable daily tasks. This individual must anticipate and resolve conflicts before they escalate, protecting both the timeline and the budget. Ultimately, the hire is responsible for delivering a fully functional, high-tech vertical farming facility that meets client expectations and design specifications.

What you'll do
Lead daily field operations from project startup through completion, ensuring all activities align with project goals.
Manage subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and trade partners onsite to foster collaboration and accountability.
Develop and maintain short-term schedules and look-ahead planning to keep the project on track.
Coordinate installation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, process piping, automation, controls, and specialty agricultural systems.
Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in strict accordance with project specifications and quality standards.
Conduct daily safety meetings and rigorously enforce all project safety requirements to protect the team.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, clients, consultants, and design teams to align expectations.
Identify and resolve field conflicts proactively to prevent impacts on the overall schedule or budget.
Manage inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities to ensure smooth project closeout.
Maintain accurate daily reports, site documentation, and progress tracking for transparent communication.
Support project budgeting, forecasting, and change management efforts through diligent data management.
Drive quality control throughout all phases of construction to deliver a final product that exceeds expectations.
Requirements
Candidates must bring a minimum of 7 years of construction field leadership experience to this role.
You must have proven Superintendent experience managing commercial, industrial, manufacturing, greenhouse, food processing, controlled environment agriculture, clean room, mission critical, life science, or similar technical projects.
A strong understanding of MEP systems and coordination is essential for success in this position.
You should be experienced in managing multiple subcontractors and fast-paced project schedules simultaneously.
The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings is required.
Strong communication and leadership skills are non-negotiable for guiding diverse teams on complex projects.
Experience with Procore and construction management software is preferred to streamline workflows.
OSHA 30 certification is preferred to demonstrate a commitment to safety excellence.
You must be able to travel throughout Southern California as project needs require flexibility.

Experience with hydroponic or aeroponic growing systems is beneficial for specialized tasks.
