About the role
Upgrade is seeking a hands-on manager to join the Card Credit Risk team to oversee portfolio analytics and policy design. You will shape credit strategies, monitor account performance, and collaborate across departments to drive business outcomes for our card products. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of portfolio policy, ensuring that rules and limits align with both risk tolerance and growth objectives. You will leverage deep analytical skills to interpret complex datasets and convert findings into clear policy frameworks. Collaboration with cross-functional partners will be central as you guide initiatives that impact customer experience and portfolio health. Your work will directly influence how credit products are structured, monitored, and optimized over time. This role requires a balance of technical rigor and business judgment to navigate evolving market conditions.

What you'll do
- Design and refine policies covering payment holds, overlimit authorizations, and account suspensions.
- Support credit risk requirements for marketing and product initiatives, including promotional offers and balance transfers.
- Work with product teams to improve on-time payments and delinquency curing through digital collections and alerts.
- Coordinate with operations to test and optimize hardship and payment programs.
- Assist in the strategic migration of legacy card products to next-generation platforms.
- Perform ongoing monitoring of portfolio policy actions and their results.
- Develop dashboards and reports that track key policy performance indicators across segments.
- Partner with compliance to ensure policy frameworks adhere to regulatory standards.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of credit interventions and adjust rules based on observed outcomes.
- Lead data investigations to identify root causes of policy exceptions and customer escalations.
- Translate evolving business needs into updated policy logic and decisioning criteria.
- Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to align on risk priorities and measurement frameworks.
- Mentor junior analysts on best practices for policy analysis and data interpretation.
- Contribute to the development of model-informed policy strategies in collaboration with risk teams.
Requirements
- 3-6 years of experience in consulting, consumer finance, or data-driven roles.
- Background in credit and analytics, specifically regarding credit card policy.
- Ability to translate complex data into actionable strategic recommendations.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Excel.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled innovation and LLMs.
- Ability to articulate business intuition derived from data analysis.
- Strong understanding of credit risk principles and regulatory considerations.
- Demonstrated experience working with portfolio-level analytics in a financial services context.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems.

- Proven ability to lead analytical projects from conception to implementation.

- The salary range for this role is $140,000 to $190,000 annually plus equity.
