About the role
Uber Freight is seeking a Data Scientist III to join their analytics team in Hyderabad. This role centers on leveraging statistical analysis and machine learning to address complex challenges in freight logistics and transportation. What you'll do
- Analyze large datasets related to freight transportation to identify patterns and trends in shipping behavior across regions
- Build predictive models to forecast shipping demand and optimize route planning for freight operations nationwide
- Develop statistical frameworks for evaluating carrier performance metrics and dynamic pricing strategies in the marketplace
- Collaborate with engineering teams to deploy machine learning models into production systems and monitor their performance
- Design and execute A/B tests to validate hypotheses about freight operations and customer behavior patterns
- Create data visualizations and interactive dashboards to communicate analytical findings to business stakeholders effectively
- Work with product managers to define key performance metrics and success criteria for freight solutions
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover opportunities for operational improvement across the supply chain network
- Support the development of data pipelines and scalable infrastructure for freight analytics workloads and reporting
- Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to knowledge sharing within the analytics organization through documentation
- Partner with operations teams to implement data-driven decision-making processes that enhance freight matching efficiency
- Evaluate model performance over time and iterate on approaches to ensure continued accuracy and relevance
- Evaluate the impact of freight pricing changes and market dynamics using econometric and causal inference methods
- Analyze customer feedback and operational data to identify friction points in the freight booking experience
Requirements
- Strong foundation in statistics, probability theory, and machine learning methodologies is essential for this role
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for data analysis and statistical modeling tasks
- Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex analytical results to diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, or computer science required
- Demonstrated experience applying data science techniques to solve real-world business problems at scale
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and big data processing tools is highly valued
- Track record of publishing research or applying novel methods to production-level problems
- Understanding of database systems and SQL for querying and manipulating large structured datasets
