Your work keeps the analytics engine running and the data flywheel spinning for every product team. You solve hard reliability and scaling challenges so stakeholders trust the numbers.
Location and Engagement
This role is based in Hyderabad, Telangana 500081, India. It is a full-time employment position with a hybrid work arrangement.
Compensation
Compensation is a competitive salary determined by the role, location, and experience.
Key Facts
Data is the true differentiator for Uber Freight in the long run. The platform team builds and owns tooling, pipelines, and canonical datasets to power analytics, intelligence, and external data integration. The role focuses on unlocking insights through strategic external data integration and acquisition. Success makes the core of Freight's datasets reliable and utilization efficient.
What You Will Do
You will design and ship data integration services that connect external partners to Uber Freight workflows. Automation of quality checks and monitoring will ensure datasets remain accurate and observable at scale. You will craft canonical models that allow analysts and scientists to explore freight behavior without fragile joins. Driving adoption of platform tools across product squads through clear patterns and documentation is essential. You will optimize query performance and infrastructure costs as data volume and query complexity grow. Defining SLIs, alerting, and incident response for critical pipelines will guide reliability improvements. Championing data governance ensures metadata, lineage, and access control stay consistent across tenants. Partnering with analysts and engineers to prototype experiments will prove value before platform rollout.
Basic Qualifications
You hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. You bring two or more years of professional software development experience. You code in Python or Java and understand how to build maintainable libraries. Hands-on pipeline work using Hive, Presto, Spark, and related workflow frameworks is required. Understanding data warehousing concepts, modeling techniques, and dimensional design is necessary. Knowledge of distributed systems and big data architecture patterns is essential. Experience with cloud data services such as BigQuery, GCS, and Composer in production is required.
Preferred Qualifications
A keen interest in solving business challenges and understanding how data empowers business stakeholders is valued. Strong knowledge of distributed systems and big data architecture, including NoSQL/SQL, Kafka, Flink, Spark, and Presto, is preferred. Proven experience with cloud data technologies like BigQuery, GCS, and Composer is an advantage. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams under tight delivery timelines is expected.
Nice to Have
Caring about business outcomes and translating stakeholder questions into data experiments is beneficial. Experience with streaming concepts using Kafka, Flink, or similar event-driven platforms is a plus. Familiarity with orchestration tools like Airflow and workflow scheduling best practices is also welcome.
Skills and Tools
Proficiency in Python and Java is required. Experience with Hive, Presto, Spark, Airflow, BigQuery, GCS, Kafka, Flink, Git, and Linux is expected.
