What you'll do
- Architect and implement backend services that form the foundation of the Stytch identity platform, designing new API endpoints and core authentication workflows with scalability in mind.
- Partner closely with product managers and engineering leaders to define the future direction of identity products, translating nuanced customer requirements into robust technical specifications and features.
- Liaise effectively with multiple Twilio and Stytch teams to ensure architectural alignment, seamless platform integration, and consistent implementation of identity standards.
- Exercise full ownership over technical design decisions, enforcing high code quality, establishing best practices, and guaranteeing the long-term reliability of critical production systems.
- Analyze and resolve complex technical challenges, making sound architectural decisions that balance innovation with stability and create exceptional, intuitive developer experiences.
- Proactively monitor system health, drive performance optimization initiatives, and lead incident response efforts to enhance system resilience and ensure maximum uptime.
- Provide technical leadership by mentoring fellow engineers, elevating the entire team's capabilities, and driving the establishment of rigorous software engineering standards.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks, conducting proof-of-concept work to assess their viability for identity-related problems and future platform needs.
- Collaborate with security specialists to implement and maintain robust security controls, ensuring compliance with industry standards and protecting sensitive identity data throughout the system lifecycle.
- Optimize database schemas, caching strategies, and infrastructure configurations to support high-throughput identity operations while maintaining low latency and cost efficiency.
- Define and own critical service-level objectives and service-level indicators, implementing detailed monitoring and alerting to maintain visibility into production behavior.
- Streamline deployment processes and CI/CD pipelines to accelerate release cycles, reduce risk, and enable the team to deliver updates to identity features safely and frequently.
- Contribute to the development of internal tools that empower other engineers to build and debug identity integrations more effectively and with greater confidence.
- Act as a technical advocate for the Stytch platform, representing its capabilities and limitations to internal stakeholders and external partners during discovery and design phases.
Requirements
- Bring a minimum of 6 years of professional experience designing, building, and operating large-scale, critical cloud-based production systems that handle high traffic and demand.
- Demonstrate proficiency in a modern programming language, coupled with a strong understanding of software design principles, best coding practices, and clean code fundamentals.
- Possess extensive experience in the full lifecycle of designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs, including versioning, documentation, and robust error handling.
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience that demonstrates a deep grasp of computational concepts.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication abilities, capable of articulating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Confirm availability for on-call rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure system reliability and timely response to production issues.
- Show a proven track record of working effectively within agile development processes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful software solutions.
- Have experience with distributed systems architectures and a solid understanding of how to build resilient, fault-tolerant services in a cloud environment.

- Compensation for this role varies based on geographic location within the United States, reflecting local market standards and cost of living adjustments. Specific ranges are provided for reference: Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, Washington D.C.: $141,520 - $176,900. New York, New Jersey, Washington State, California (outside SF Bay Area): $149,840 - $187,300. San Francisco Bay Area, California: $166,400 - $208,000. These figures represent targeted base salary ranges for the specified locations.
- This role may be eligible for equity participation and a corporate bonus plan as part of the total rewards package, subject to eligibility criteria and plan terms.
