You will serve as a critical human safeguard within the operational loop of autonomous vehicle testing and commercial deployment in Europe. This position demands a high level of vigilance and immediate responsiveness to ensure the safety of the vehicle, the public, and the testing team. You will be the final decision-making authority for taking control when the autonomous system encounters situations beyond its operational design domain. The role requires a proactive mindset where you anticipate potential hazards rather than only reacting to explicit system commands. You will directly contribute to the reliability data and performance metrics that validate the autonomous software stack in real-world conditions. This is a hands-on position where your driving precision and adherence to procedures directly influence the success of pilot programs and ride-hailing services. Your work will involve close coordination with remote monitoring teams and on-site engineering personnel to maintain a seamless and secure operational flow. By performing this role, you actively support the advancement and public trust in autonomous mobility solutions.

What you'll do

Operate the vehicle safely and smoothly while monitoring the autonomous driving system and all traffic participants continuously.

Intervene immediately and decisively by taking manual control to manage incidents, hazards, or system limitations during test and service operations.

Execute precise vehicle maneuvers including lane changes, parking maneuvers, and intersection navigation according to operational procedures.

Conduct thorough pre-drive inspections of the vehicle, checking sensors, brakes, steering, and emergency systems to ensure operational readiness.

Follow strict operational procedures and checklists to maintain compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

Communicate clearly and concisely with the fleet operations and monitoring teams regarding vehicle status, route updates, and any anomalies observed.

Monitor the passenger cabin environment and assist passengers boarding or disembarking safely when required during operational pauses.

Document operational events, system interactions, and any deviations from the planned route in detailed logs for analysis and review.

Maintain situational awareness at all times, anticipating potential risks from other road users, pedestrians, cyclists, and unexpected obstacles.

Support the collection and validation of performance data by ensuring the vehicle's sensors and operational systems are functioning as expected during the journey.

Participate actively in debrief sessions after shifts to discuss operational experiences, near-miss events, and suggestions for procedural improvements.

Adapt driving behavior dynamically based on weather conditions, traffic density, and specific instructions from the fleet management center.

Ensure the vehicle is left in a safe and secure state at the end of each shift, following all parking and shutdown protocols meticulously.

Collaborate with depot operations teams to facilitate vehicle turnaround, cleaning, and preparation for the next operational window.

Requirements

You must hold a valid French driving license category B.

You must possess a clean driving record with no disqualifications or major offenses in the recent past.

You must be legally authorized to work in France and hold a valid passport or national ID card.

You must be at least 23 years old and no older than 55 years old at the start of the engagement.

You must have a minimum of two years of driving experience on public roads in France or other European countries.

You must demonstrate excellent vision and perception skills, including the ability to monitor multiple information sources simultaneously.

You must be highly responsive and capable of making sound decisions under pressure in dynamic traffic situations.

You must have a strong sense of responsibility and reliability, with a commitment to following safety protocols precisely.

Nice to have

Experience with vehicle telemetry systems or data acquisition tools.

Prior familiarity with autonomous driving concepts or terminology.

Experience in customer service or passenger-facing roles.

Practical notes

This role may require shifts outside standard business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

You must be available to work in the Paris metropolitan area and potentially travel between districts as required by operational needs.
