Inside Sales Representative
Job description
About the role
The team identifies and qualifies new business opportunities within the Chicago and Midwest market from a base in Somerville, MA. This role develops a pipeline of prospects and provides a path to a full-cycle Account Executive position.
Sales roles connect a company's product with the customers who need it. Representatives research accounts, run demos, handle objections, and close deals. The work is quota driven and moves quickly. Strong sellers combine listening skills with product knowledge and steady follow through. Sales roles reward consistent activity and honest qualification of deals. Most companies use a defined sales process, and reps are trained on it before being left on their own.
Key facts
What you'll do
Understanding business needs, buying processes, and decision timelines allows for identifying and qualifying prospects in landscaping, construction, synthetic turf, distribution, and industrial segments. Prospect activity, pipeline health, and sales results are documented and communicated to leadership using CRM software. Territory strategies and targeted outreach campaigns are developed in partnership with the sales team.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Environmental Science, or a related field or equivalent experience is required. A hunter mentality drives the ability to open new accounts, handle rejection, and find creative ways in. Clear written and verbal communication builds rapport and holds compelling conversations quickly. Multiple priorities are managed, time is organized well, and accuracy is maintained without dropping tasks. Independent work in a fast-paced, office-based inside sales environment occurs while managing a remote territory and collaborating with the sales team. Proficiency with MS Office and the ability to learn CRM and prospecting tools quickly are necessary. A genuine interest in sustainability, green building, or environmental impact is demonstrated. Eagerness to learn, grow, and advance prepares you for a full-cycle Account Executive position. Eligibility to work in the United States without future sponsorship is required. Occasional travel for trade shows, customer visits, and team meetings is required, along with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Practical notes
The role is based in Somerville, MA. Typical interview steps
Sales hiring often includes a role play, a discovery call simulation, and a presentation. Candidates may be asked to pitch a product to a panel or handle a tough objection. Behavioral questions focus on past quota attainment and deal history. Energy and preparation matter. Interviewers often simulate the job in the interview itself, so be ready to run a short discovery call or demo. Practicing your own sales pitch out loud helps.
Good to know
Inside sales roles rely on remote outreach and digital communication tools to engage prospects. CRM platforms organize and track sales activities and pipeline data. Sales positions often require resilience when handling rejection and consistent performance against targets. Professional representation of a company involves demonstrating product knowledge and mission alignment.
Questions to ask
Useful questions for the interview: what a typical week looks like, how work is assigned, what tools the team uses, and how feedback works. Asking how the role has changed recently and what the team wishes it had known when joining is also reasonable. Questions about the manager's priorities are especially valued.
Career growth
Sales careers can move from SDR or associate to account executive, senior AE, manager, and director roles. Some sellers move into partnerships, account management, or revenue operations. Compensation typically mixes a base with commission tied to results. High performers in sales typically move into larger accounts, team leadership, or sales operations. Quota history and references carry the most weight in promotion.
