Product Scientist
Job description
About the role
This role drives data-driven decisions across a global mobile games portfolio. The team designs experiments, builds analytical frameworks, and converts insights into product actions. You will own the end-to-end research lifecycle, translating ambiguous product questions into rigorous study designs. You will act as the analytical backbone for multiple games, ensuring that every decision is grounded in reproducible evidence. Your work will set the standard for rigor and reporting across the team. You will maintain detailed lab notebooks and version-controlled analysis code to guarantee transparency. Ultimately, you will turn complex user behavior into clear narratives that guide product strategy at scale.

Practical notes
You work within Lion Studios, a mobile games publisher headquartered in San Francisco. The role is based in Berlin. An employee assistance program offers confidential support. Free lunch is provided on-site through Wolt. A pension plan is available via Degura for those who opt in. Typical interview steps
Research interviews usually include a presentation of past work, a technical discussion, and sometimes a research proposal exercise. Candidates may be asked to design a study or critique a method. Depth of understanding is tested more than speed. Interviewers often ask you to present your past work in depth. Being ready to defend every methodological choice is the core preparation.
Good to know
The role focuses on experimentation and analytics in a fast-moving games environment. Professionals use SQL, Python or R, and AI tools to turn data into product decisions. Success requires clear communication, ownership, and comfort with quantitative methods. The team values autonomy, rapid iteration, and continuous learning. The position sits within a large portfolio that reaches millions of daily active users.
Questions to ask
Worth asking in any interview: how the team measures success, who the role works with daily, what the onboarding looks like, and what the company is trying to achieve this year. Asking what past hires did well is a strong final question. Keep the list short and pick the questions that matter most to you.
Career growth
Research careers grow from junior researcher to senior scientist, principal, and lab or research director roles. Some people move into applied research and product work. Publication record or demonstrable impact drives progression, depending on the setting. Research careers reward a strong publication or delivery record. Applied research roles value impact on products as much as novelty.
