About the role
Torc Robotics is seeking an intern to join our System Triage team, a critical function within our autonomous vehicle development lifecycle. In this capacity, you will own the analysis of performance data sourced directly from public road operations and controlled closed-course testing scenarios. The position grants you the responsibility of contributing directly to the advancement and refinement of our autonomous vehicle technology through methodical investigation. You will work in close collaboration with multiple internal teams, gaining significant hands-on experience in system triaging, data analysis, and problem resolution. This role is designed to immerse you in the core challenges of identifying and resolving system-level issues in a real-world engineering environment. You will be expected to drive ownership of specific analysis tasks from data collection through to reporting conclusions. The position provides a unique opportunity to understand the intersection of software, hardware, and safety in autonomous systems. Your work will directly inform the development cycles and maturity of the software that powers our vehicles.

What you'll do
- Conduct behavioral assessments of autonomous vehicle operations by parsing and interpreting data streams from public roads and closed-course testing.
- Utilize simulation tools to identify edge cases and subsequently enhance datasets to improve the quality and robustness of machine learning model training.
- Perform counterfactual simulations of selected real-world events, collaborating extensively with Safety, System Verification and Validation, and Machine Learning teams to address and mitigate unsafe behaviors.
- Engage in comprehensive data triage, tracking, and reporting of metrics related to system anomalies and test escapes to ensure traceability.
- Use 3D visualization tools to conduct in-depth analysis of sensor data, uncovering latent software and hardware issues that may not be apparent in raw logs.
- Collaborate on the development of new tools focused on efficient triage, analysis workflows, and reporting to elevate software maturity insights across the organization.
- Maintain and optimize defect management processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of bug ticketing from identification to resolution.
- Support the integration and deployment of software builds, facilitating consistent and reliable releases to testing teams for further evaluation.
- Work closely with your assigned team and other cross-functional departments to provide timely, actionable feedback to development teams for iterative improvement.
- This position will require onsite work at the office location on a hybrid schedule, with a commitment of three days per week in the office environment.
- Internship duration is set for the period starting in August 2026 and concluding in December 2026, aligning with the academic calendar.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, with graduation expected within 0-3 years of relevant experience.
