About the role
You will serve as the automation backbone for our entire engineering organization in this DevOps and full-stack role. You will take ground-floor ownership of the tools and infrastructure that directly drive our release velocity and system reliability. This position requires strong Python skills and deep hands-on experience with containerization and cloud architecture. You will build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to support safety-critical autonomous vehicle software. The role demands ownership of real production infrastructure to ensure system reliability and performance. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to analyze requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.

What you'll do
- Build technology solutions, analyze requirements, and seek guidance from your manager and peers on scope and objectives.
- Contribute to design discussions, proposing solutions and creating diagrams and design documents for clarity.
- Write and modify code to deliver solutions, thoroughly testing via unit and integration tests and fixing bugs to ensure quality.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain production infrastructure, diagnosing issues and implementing improvements for reliability.
- Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines that automate testing, linting, and deployment processes.
- Implement scalable cloud architectures using containerization and orchestration technologies to support development workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand needs and deliver tooling that accelerates development velocity.
- Develop internal tools and libraries that abstract complexity and enable engineering teams to ship software efficiently.
- Troubleshoot complex issues in the build and deployment pipeline, applying creative problem-solving and root cause analysis.
- Iterate on existing tooling based on feedback, improving documentation, usability, and performance for the entire organization.
- Partner with product and operations to define standards and best practices for infrastructure and deployment strategies.
- Automate repetitive tasks and processes to reduce manual effort and increase consistency across engineering workflows.
- Maintain and evolve the reliability, security, and scalability of the tooling used by engineering and DevOps teams.
- Support incident response activities and contribute to post-incident reviews to drive continuous improvement.
- Communicate progress, roadblocks, and design decisions effectively through written documentation and verbal discussions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated ability to deliver production-grade software.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Python for building applications, scripts, and automation tools.
- 2+ years of experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
- 2+ years of experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Solid grasp of software development practices including version control, testing, debugging, and agile methodologies.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and ambiguous problem spaces.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements while maintaining high standards for code quality.
- Demonstrated ownership and initiative in identifying problems and driving solutions to completion.
- Commitment to operational excellence and reliability for systems that impact safety-critical autonomous vehicle software.
- Experience with Linux environments, shell scripting, and command-line tools is required for daily operations.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools to observe system health and performance in production.
Nice to have
- Experience contributing to open-source projects relevant to infrastructure and tooling.
- Familiarity with robotics software development practices and safety-critical systems.
- Knowledge of compliance and regulatory considerations for autonomous vehicle software.
- Experience with database management and schema design for operational data.
- Background in front-end development or user interface tooling for internal dashboards.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position eligible for remote work within the United States, with the option to work from the Ann Arbor, Michigan office. Travel is not required for this role. The position is exempt and classified as full-time employment. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for this role at this time.
