About the role
Torc Robotics is seeking a Senior System Test Engineer specializing in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing. This role is integral to validating the safety and performance of our autonomous driving systems. You will collaborate with various teams to ensure the effective integration and functionality of our software across the autonomy stack.

What you'll do
- Create, develop, and sustain HiL test setups to validate autonomous driving software and overall system performance.
- Formulate and implement testing strategies, cases, and validation plans based on system specifications and safety objectives.
- Build and manage automated testing scripts and frameworks to enhance testing efficiency and coverage.
- Integrate hardware and software into HiL environments, overseeing data flow and synchronization across different subsystems.
- Conduct verification and validation activities in compliance with safety standards like ISO 26262.
- Assist in the integration and validation of new features in perception, sensor fusion, and vehicle control systems.
- Utilize tools such as ROS/ROS2, CAN systems, and simulation platforms for testing and troubleshooting.
- Analyze test outcomes, identify system-level issues, and work collaboratively to resolve them.
- Document testing procedures, results, and defects, sharing insights with engineering and program stakeholders.
- Continuously enhance HiL infrastructure, tools, and workflows for scalable and efficient testing processes.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing, including test bench setup and maintenance.
- Familiarity with HiL platforms such as dSPACE, National Instruments (NI), Vector, or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of autonomous driving systems, including sensors (LiDAR, radar, cameras), perception, sensor fusion, and vehicle dynamics.
- Proven experience in developing and executing test cases and validation plans for complex systems.
- Proficiency in Python and/or C++, with a background in test automation and tooling development.
- Experience with ROS/ROS2, including node development and debugging tools (e.g., rviz, rosbag).
- Knowledge of CAN protocols and tools such as CANoe or CANalyzer.
- Experience in integrating complex systems across hardware and software domains.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug issues in complex environments.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a dynamic setting.
Nice to have
- Experience testing autonomous vehicles or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in production or pre-production settings.
- Familiarity with simulation frameworks or model-based development tools.
- Background in supporting safety-critical system validation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience working in Agile or SAFe methodologies.
- Exposure to cloud-based data systems or large-scale test data analysis.

For this position, candidates can work from Ann Arbor, MI, in a hybrid capacity or remotely from anywhere in the United States.
