About the role
Thinkingbox is seeking a Junior Accountant to join their growing team in Vancouver. This is a full-time position that will involve supporting day-to-day financial operations and contributing to the accuracy of the company's accounting records across multiple departments. The Junior Accountant will work closely with the finance team to ensure all financial tasks are completed accurately and on time each month.

What you'll do
Assist with preparing monthly financial statements and reports for internal management review
Record daily transactions in the general ledger and verify their accuracy
Support the accounts payable and accounts receivable teams with timely invoice processing
Reconcile bank statements carefully and flag any discrepancies for senior staff review
Help with payroll processing and ensure all employee payments are made on time
Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures alongside the senior accounting staff
Organize and maintain all financial documents in a structured and accessible filing system
Assist with budgeting activities and track departmental expenses against approved forecasts
Coordinate with external auditors during annual review periods and provide requested documents
Contribute to improving existing accounting workflows and maintain thorough internal documentation standards
Review and categorize expense reports submitted by various departments for proper allocation
Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close process with the accounting team
Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and forecast reports for department heads
Ensure all financial records are up to date and properly archived for future reference
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in accounting or finance is preferred
Familiarity with basic accounting principles and bookkeeping practices is expected for this role
Ability to work with spreadsheets and financial software on a daily basis
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate financial work
Good written and verbal communication skills for interacting with team members daily
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment
Willingness to learn new processes and take direction from senior accounting professionals
Minimum of one year of experience in an accounting or finance role, if any
Comfortable working with numbers and performing calculations accurately on a consistent basis
Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion at all times
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data organization and reporting
Ability to work independently and take initiative when completing routine accounting tasks
Nice to have
Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero is considered a strong plus
Knowledge of Canadian tax regulations and compliance requirements would be very beneficial
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel at an intermediate to advanced level is always helpful
Previous exposure to payroll processing or accounts reconciliation tasks is highly valued
Understanding of basic financial controls and internal audit procedures is a bonus
Prior experience working in a corporate or agency accounting setting is welcomed
