The Weitz Company is seeking an experienced Senior Project Superintendent to oversee construction projects in the picturesque setting of Telluride, Colorado. This role is in ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. As a Senior Project Superintendent, you will lead a team of professionals, manage subcontractors, and coordinate with various stakeholders to deliver exceptional results. Your expertise will be essential in navigating the complexities of construction management in a challenging environment.

What you'll do

Lead and supervise all phases of construction projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring adherence to project specifications and timelines.
Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to develop and implement project plans that align with client expectations and regulatory requirements.
Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, enforce safety protocols, and ensure compliance with building codes and quality standards.
Manage subcontractor performance, including selection, negotiation, and oversight, to ensure work is completed efficiently and effectively.
Prepare and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasts, adjusting as necessary to accommodate changes in scope or unforeseen challenges.
Facilitate communication among all project stakeholders, including clients, team members, and external partners, to ensure alignment and address any issues promptly.
Implement best practices in construction management, including risk management strategies and quality control measures, to enhance project outcomes.
Mentor and train junior staff and field personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.
Coordinate with local authorities and regulatory bodies to secure necessary permits and inspections, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
Prepare detailed reports on project status, including progress updates, financial performance, and any potential risks, for presentation to senior management and clients.
Address and resolve any conflicts or disputes that may arise during the construction process, maintaining a focus on achieving project goals.
Ensure that all safety protocols are strictly followed on-site, promoting a safe working environment for all personnel involved in the project.

Requirements

A minimum of 7 years of experience in construction management, with a focus on commercial or residential projects.
Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale construction projects from inception to completion.
Strong knowledge of construction processes, techniques, and materials, as well as local building codes and regulations.
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse workforce.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
Proficiency in project management software and tools, with a strong understanding of scheduling and budgeting principles.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.

Nice to have

A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Experience with sustainable building practices and green construction methods.
Familiarity with advanced construction technologies, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM).
Certification from a recognized professional organization, such as the Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).

Skills & tools

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for budgeting and scheduling.
Familiarity with construction management software such as Procore, Primavera, or similar platforms.
Knowledge of safety management systems and OSHA regulations.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.

Practical notes

This position is based in Telluride, Colorado, and may require occasional travel to the Denver headquarters for meetings and training.
