The Weitz Company is seeking an experienced MEP Project Superintendent to join our team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This full-time position is crucial for overseeing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing aspects of our construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in MEP systems and will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including project managers, subcontractors, and clients, to deliver exceptional results.

What you'll do
- Lead and manage the MEP project team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among all members.
- Oversee the installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring that all MEP work is completed on time and within budget.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress and quality of work, addressing any issues that arise promptly.
- Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors to ensure integration of MEP systems into the overall project.
- Review and approve shop drawings and submittals related to MEP systems, ensuring they meet project specifications.
- Prepare and manage project budgets, tracking expenses and ensuring that costs remain within established limits.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project team members, helping to resolve complex MEP-related issues.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, meeting minutes, and correspondence with stakeholders.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed on-site, promoting a culture of safety among all team members.
- Participate in project meetings, providing updates on MEP progress and addressing any concerns from the project team.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP project management or supervision within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including installation and troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with local building codes and regulations related to MEP systems.
- A degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Nice to have
- Experience with sustainable building practices and energy-efficient systems.
- Certification in project management (PMP or similar) is a plus.
- Previous experience working on large-scale commercial or industrial projects.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its application in MEP design.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and protocols in construction.
