About the role
You will define the data strategy and execution roadmap for the Growth Conversion analytics function, owning the end-to-end analytical lifecycle. You will partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and PMO teams to translate ambiguous business questions into rigorous data solutions. You will lead the development of insight products that increase subscription conversion across the funnel. You will establish and evangelize key performance indicators that align with the journalistic mission of The New York Times. You will democratize access to data through thoughtful visualization and infrastructure choices. You will navigate complex organizational structures to guide stakeholders in data-driven decision making. You will foster a culture of experimentation and learning within your growing team. You will represent the impact of analytics at the executive level, ensuring that data fuels strategic growth initiatives.

What you'll do
- Define the end-to-end data strategy for Growth Conversion analytics and own the creation and execution of solutions across the team.
- Manage multiple, and at times simultaneous, projects from discovery through delivery, balancing impact, scope, and speed to deliver timely insight.
- Create novel insights, advocate for them with data storytelling, and lead them into action across the subscription funnel.
- Oversee team deliverables, ensuring quality and rigor, and represent the team's work and impact at the executive level.
- Democratize data and insights through skillful data structuring, modeling, and use of visualization tools such as dashboards and reports.
- Navigate through ambiguity and complex organizational structures to advise stakeholders on how to best evaluate and implement initiatives from a data perspective.
- Proactively lead data projects by fostering collaboration, building consensus, and driving initiatives to successful completion.
- Demonstrate support for and understanding of the value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to the mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and PMO teams to embed data thinking into the product development lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain a clear metrics framework that measures the health and growth of the subscription funnel.
- Leverage experimentation and causal analysis techniques to test hypotheses and measure true impact.
- Communicate findings and recommendations in a clear, concise, and actionable manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor analysts and data professionals, providing guidance, feedback, and career development.
- Ensure that all data practices adhere to The New York Times standards for privacy, security, and data governance.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience working with data analytics or data science teams to deliver reporting, analysis and insight or a quantitative degree.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases.
- 3+ years of people management experience.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Mode, Tableau, or Looker.
- Familiarity with Google BigQuery, AWS, or other big data environments.
- Comfort with version control (Github, code review).
- Experience leading product or subscription analytics strategy.
- 5+ years of experience communicating key insights to cross functional stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and drive decisions in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to influence without authority.
- A collaborative mindset with a genuine commitment to teamwork and cross-functional partnership.
- Intellectual curiosity and a passion for using data to solve complex problems.

This is a full-time position eligible for variable pay such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
