Sr. Network Engineer
Job description
About the role
Tenstorrent builds high performance RISC-V CPUs and AI platforms to redefine modern computing. We are seeking a network engineer to manage the global data center infrastructure that supports our AI compute clusters. This role involves designing and maintaining the backbone of our hardware and software ecosystem. The successful candidate will own the architecture and day-to-day operations of the network that powers our distributed AI workloads. You will be responsible for ensuring that data flows seamlessly between our compute, storage, and control plane components. This position requires deep collaboration with hardware, firmware, and software teams to align network behavior with product requirements. You will drive the implementation of robust and efficient network solutions that meet the demands of next generation AI training and inference. Your work will directly impact the performance, reliability, and scalability of our platform in production environments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build and maintain the global data center network supporting our AI accelerator clusters.
- Manage and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and high-speed fabrics to ensure uptime.
- Work alongside hardware, platform, and DevOps teams to expand network capacity and optimize performance.
- Create secure, scalable architectures while implementing automation to streamline provisioning.
- Design and implement network topologies using leaf-spine architecture to support high bandwidth and low latency requirements.
- Configure and maintain routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EVPN-VXLAN for efficient path selection and redundancy.
- Ensure lossless Ethernet fabrics are operational, managing technologies like RoCEv2, PFC, ECN, and DCQCN to prevent packet drop.
- Monitor network performance, analyze traffic patterns, and resolve complex issues across distributed infrastructure.
- Automate repetitive tasks and network workflows using Python, Ansible, or Terraform to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors.
- Collaborate with security teams to implement firewall policies and best practices using platforms such as Fortinet.
- Participate in on-call rotations to respond to network incidents and provide rapid resolution during critical events.
- Document network configurations, changes, and procedures to maintain clear operational records and support knowledge transfer.
- Evaluate and integrate new network technologies and tools to support scaling AI compute demands.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on network related topics.
Requirements
- Experience designing and operating large-scale data center networks using leaf-spine architecture.
- Proficiency in Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols including BGP, EVPN-VXLAN, OSPF, and TCP/IP.
- Practical knowledge of Arista EOS, Dell SONiC, Cisco IOS-XE, and Fortinet firewalls.
- Experience with lossless Ethernet fabrics for RDMA, specifically RoCEv2, PFC, ECN, and DCQCN.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across distributed infrastructure.
- Competency in network automation using Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Strong understanding of network security principles and firewall management.
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning workloads and their network requirements.
- Experience with cloud platforms and hybrid networking models.
- Knowledge of open source network operating systems and community driven solutions.
- Exposure to high performance computing and distributed storage systems.
- Understanding of RISC-V architectures and emerging compute paradigms.
Practical notes
Compensation for engineering roles ranges from $100,000 to $500,000, including base and variable pay, depending on background and location. Employment is contingent upon the candidate being eligible to access U.S. export-controlled technology, which may require citizenship or permanent residency status or specific government license approval due to U. S. export laws. We accept applicants at various experience levels and will adjust the offer based on the interview assessment.
