Senior Product Manager
Job description
About the role
This Senior Product Manager role owns the design and evolution of the core money movement platform that underpins how Tapcheck moves real money to hourly workers. The hire will be responsible for bank payment types such as Same-Day ACH, RTP, and wires, including their returns, rejections, retries, cutoff windows, settlement confirmation, and reconciliation. They will also own the payroll card program end to end, covering issuing, BIN eligibility, cardholder lifecycle, network compliance, and processor configuration. In addition, the role owns employer and worker payout surfaces, covering file upload, funding windows, and failure handling, while designing these capabilities as reusable services rather than one-off integrations. The position requires building the rails and abstractions that keep the platform rail-agnostic so that adding a new rail is a configuration and integration exercise instead of a re-architecture. The hire will define and own the service-level objectives, performance benchmarks, and the observability required to prove that payment services meet their commitments.
Key facts
What you'll do
Own money movement end to end across bank rails and card rails, including Same-Day ACH, RTP, wires, push-to-card, and their associated failure modes.
Design payments capability as platform services with explicit API and data contracts so new rails, products, and partners plug in without requiring rework.
Define the abstractions that keep the platform rail-agnostic, ensuring that adding a rail is an exercise in configuration and integration rather than re-architecture.
Define and own the SLAs and performance benchmarks for payment services, and build the observability and monitoring needed to validate those commitments.
Design for multi-tenant scale, backward compatibility, and clean migration paths where changes can have blast radius across consuming teams.
Write detailed requirements independently, including PRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, state and error handling, field-level mapping, and technical scoping.
Work embedded with engineering on a daily basis through discovery, refinement, sprint planning, standup, and demos, answering questions in real time.
Direct augmented engineering capacity by defining work precisely enough for distributed teams to build correctly, sequencing the work, reviewing what is built, and holding the quality bar.
Carry work through production validation by reading logs, querying data, walking the flow, and confirming that fixes held under real conditions.
Define success metrics and guardrails before building, and run real experiments where they apply, such as payout selection, funding flows, card activation, error and retry messaging, and default rail selection.
Run staged rollouts as the instrument where experimentation is not safe, using canary and percentage releases, holdback cohorts, pre-declared guardrail metrics, and agreed rollback criteria.
Know the difference between experimentation approaches and explain to stakeholders why a given change receives one type of rollout and not another.
Build the analytics and instrumentation needed to answer questions independently instead of filing a request for every insight.
Take problems that arrive as symptoms or recurring incidents and turn them into scoped, sequenced, and owned work with clear accountability.
Decide with incomplete information, state assumptions plainly, revisit them when evidence changes, and distinguish reversible decisions from irreversible ones to apply rigor where it matters.
Requirements
The candidate has under-the-hood knowledge of how funds actually settle and obsess over failure paths because that is where payment systems break.
The candidate has experience building like a platform engineer thinks, designing services with clean contracts and defined SLAs.
The candidate has shipped money movement at scale and understands the tradeoffs between speed, cost, and settlement certainty when choosing rails.
The candidate is comfortable with real ambiguity and can write down assumptions while making progress with incomplete information.
The candidate can align stakeholders across Finance, Legal, Payment Operations, Engineering, and external partners ahead of meetings rather than relying on authority.
The candidate succeeds on being consistently right in writing and on being easy to say yes to.
The candidate has experience working in states where Tapcheck operates, including AL, AZ, CA, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, LA, MA, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OR, OH, PA, RI, SC, TX, VA, WA, WI.
The candidate is able to work full-time in the United States in a remote-friendly capacity.
The candidate can read, write, and communicate effectively in English to coordinate across distributed teams and external partners.
Nice to have
Experience with payment rails such as ACH, RTP, and card networks, and familiarity with processor configurations and BIN management.
Experience building and operating platform services with API contracts, observability, and multi-tenant considerations.
Experience running experiments and staged rollouts in production financial systems, including guardrail metrics and rollback strategies.
Experience working with payroll card programs, issuing partners, and network compliance requirements.
Practical notes
This role is remote-friendly with an expectation that candidates are based in or able to work from the listed states.
The engagement is full-time, and the position requires availability during standard business hours for collaboration with cross-functional partners.
