About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled United States-based Employment Lawyer to join our growing legal team. This role owns the interpretation and application of employment and labor law to ensure all people operations are legally sound and ethically executed. The attorney will serve as the primary advisor on complex matters involving hiring, performance management, and discharge, safeguarding the company against wrongful termination claims. They will own the full lifecycle of employee agreements, ensuring form documents and policies reflect current law and business reality. This position requires proactive management of external litigation and investigations while acting as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders. The role directly influences operational policies and practices, translating legal complexity into clear, actionable guidance. Success in this position demands strong leadership to guide cross-functional teams and shape the employment law agenda across the organization. This attorney will be a key partner in navigating sensitive employee privacy and accommodation issues with discretion and care.

What you'll do
Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of employment and labor law as it applies to our global operations and remote workforce.
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide array of employment-related policies, contracts, and agreements to mitigate legal risk and ensure enforceability.
Provide strategic counsel to the human resources team on operational processes, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and best practices.
Investigate and manage all aspects of employment disputes, including wrongful termination claims, to protect the company's interests and reputation.
Conduct training sessions and educational programs to elevate legal literacy and compliance awareness across all geographies and departments.
Monitor and analyze changes in employment and labor legislation to advise the company on necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
Supervise and coordinate with outside counsel to ensure efficient case management and cost-effective resolution of legal matters.
Liaise with local counsel in various jurisdictions to address region-specific legal requirements and ensure consistent global standards.
Evaluate and advise on employee privacy matters, ensuring that data handling practices comply with applicable laws and internal policies.
Balance the competing priorities of various internal constituencies to deliver practical solutions that support business objectives without compromising compliance.
Serve as the central point of contact for employment law inquiries, providing clear and timely responses to leadership and HR.
Champion the implementation of ethical employment practices, including anti-harassment and anti-corruption policies, across the entire organization.
Requirements
You must possess a J.D. or equivalent law degree and hold a current license to practice law in California or Washington State.
You must have a minimum of five years of experience practicing in a law firm or equivalent in-house legal department.
You must have demonstrable experience in international employment law, including cross-border compliance and global policy implementation.
You must exhibit superior writing and presentation skills, capable of producing clear, precise, and persuasive legal documents.
You must possess superior communication and leadership skills, enabling effective collaboration with senior executives and cross-functional teams.
You must be self-motivated, organized, and proactive, requiring little hands-on supervision while managing multiple priorities.
You must have a proven track record of handling sensitive employment matters with discretion and sound judgment.
You must be able to interpret complex legal concepts and translate them into actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
Nice to have
Preferred experience with technology sector employment issues and remote work arrangements.
Familiarity with employment law precedents and regulatory frameworks in multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
Practical notes
The role requires some travel to support and train in the geographies in which we conduct business.
