About the role
This role grants end-to-end ownership of lending products that power Mogo Kenya's mission of financial inclusion. You will directly shape the design, pricing, and terms of boda-boda, logbook, and smartphone loans to serve underserved communities. The position demands a hands-on founder mindset where you translate business strategy into executable product roadmaps. You will own customer journeys from first touch to full deployment, ensuring every interaction drives sustainable growth. Success requires rapid experimentation, rigorous analysis, and the courage to make data-backed decisions in a fast-moving environment. You will report to the Country Director and act as a strategic product leader from day one.
Key facts
1. Product Ownership & Development
- Own the product end to end, covering design, pricing, terms, eligibility, customer journey, and overall economics.
- Continuously analyze customer needs and market data to refine the product so it remains competitive and relevant.
- Define and prioritize the product roadmap, translating business goals into clear requirements for delivery teams.
- Identify and launch new business lines, segments, and product variations to unlock additional growth.
2. Growth & Scaling Issuances
- Take full responsibility for scaling the product to increase issuance volumes and portfolio size within agreed budget and risk appetite.
- Build and develop new client-acquisition channels, including digital, branch, partner, agent, and referral networks.
- Drive new client acquisition and up-sell/cross-sell initiatives to existing customers to maximize lifetime value.
- Improve the end-to-end sales funnel and conversion rates by removing friction across the customer journey.
3. Marketing & Communication
- Own the complete marketing plan for the product, from strategy through to execution and measurable results.
- Develop and oversee all content across channels, including digital, social, print, and offline or in-branch materials.
- Initiate campaigns, promotions, and special offers to keep issuances on plan and respond to evolving market conditions.
- Manage the product marketing budget and optimize spend against acquisition cost and return on investment.
4. Cross-functional Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead IT and digital projects that enhance product presentation, the sales funnel, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with risk, credit, operations, sales, and finance to balance aggressive growth with strong portfolio quality.
- Generate and implement ideas that improve branches, shops, and other customer touchpoints to elevate the experience.
5. Performance & Accountability
- Define, track, and act on KPIs for product growth, customer acquisition, conversion, retention, and profitability.
- Use data and customer insight to make decisions, run experiments, and report performance clearly to leadership.
- Bring a growth mindset, taking full ownership of outcomes and embracing responsibility end to end.
Requirements
Must-Haves (Required)
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance, economics, or a related field.
- Possess 4+ years of experience in product management, product ownership, product marketing, or commercial roles.
- The experience should ideally be within financial services, fintech, lending, or a related consumer-facing industry.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of growing a product, channel, or P&L, such as growth in sales, issuances, or revenue.
- Have hands-on experience owning marketing plans and campaigns across both digital and offline channels.
- Be comfortable working with data and analytics tools to track performance and inform decisions.
- Bring experience leading or coordinating IT or digital development projects, with Agile or product-owner experience being an advantage.
- Have prior lending, credit, or loan-product experience as a strong plus for this position.
Nice to have
- Strong ownership and accountability with a bias for action in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience scaling financial products or portfolios in emerging markets.
- Familiarity with boda-boda or informal transport lending models.
- Track record of managing cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Comfort working with regulators and understanding compliance requirements for lending products.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in Nairobi. The role may require occasional travel between branches and offices as needed to execute campaigns and gather insights. Candidates must be eligible to work in Kenya without sponsorship. The position reports directly to the Country Director and offers a clear pathway for career growth within the financing products domain.
