About the role
We are seeking a skilled technology leader to enhance the IT framework at StrongMinds Zambia. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our technology systems are not only secure but also effectively utilized by staff to meet their objectives. You will play a crucial role in localizing global IT standards to fit the unique needs of our operations in Zambia while being the first representative of our global IT team based in the country. You will own the end-to-end management of the technology stack, driving initiatives that align with the strategic goals of the organization and the digital transformation agenda. This position requires a forward-thinking individual who can bridge the gap between global best practices and the realities of the Zambian operational context. You will be responsible for creating a robust and scalable IT environment that empowers the team to deliver high-impact social outcomes. Your leadership will ensure that technology infrastructure is resilient, efficient, and aligned with the evolving needs of our programs and partners.

What you'll do
Define and implement a comprehensive IT strategy that supports the mission of StrongMinds Zambia and integrates seamlessly with global systems.
Architect and oversee the deployment of secure network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and optimal performance for all digital services.
Lead the administration and optimization of Google Workspace (G Suite) ecosystem, managing users, security, and collaboration tools.
Provide expert-level technical support and guidance to a diverse user community, including field staff and senior management, to ensure productivity.
Develop and maintain rigorous IT policies and procedures that comply with international standards while respecting local regulatory requirements.
Spearhead the integration of new technologies, such as HRIS, payroll systems, and communication platforms like Slack, to streamline operations.
Utilize data-driven insights to monitor system performance, identify vulnerabilities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage relationships with external technology vendors and partners to ensure service level agreements are met and costs are optimized.
Champion the adoption of agile methodologies and SDLC best practices within the IT department to enhance project delivery and responsiveness.
Act as the primary liaison between the local team and the global IT department, ensuring clear communication and alignment on strategic priorities.
Implement robust data management solutions using SQL to handle database administration, migration, and complex querying tasks efficiently.
Explore and prototype automation opportunities using Python to reduce manual effort and improve reliability in data processes and API integrations.
Evaluate, test, and deploy field data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox and CommCare to support program monitoring and evaluation activities.
Ensure all technology initiatives are delivered with a strong focus on security, scalability, and user experience to maximize impact.
Requirements
Possess a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the IT sector, demonstrating expertise in software engineering, network infrastructure, or complex data systems management.
Have an in-depth understanding of network security principles, protocols, and best practices to safeguard organizational assets and data integrity.
Be proficient in administering Google Workspace (G Suite) and managing related enterprise platforms, including Slack, HRIS, and payroll systems.
Demonstrate significant experience in providing technical support to a varied user base, balancing the needs of field personnel with executive leadership.
Exhibit strong communication skills that are proactive and suitable for a global remote organization, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse stakeholders effectively.
Show proven problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying potential IT challenges and implementing preventative measures.
Have a strong aptitude for self-directed learning and the ability to quickly master new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.
Be able to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of accountability and ownership over deliverables.
Nice to have
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline that provides a strong theoretical foundation.
Possess relevant professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, ITIL, or Google Workspace Administration that validate expertise and commitment.
Demonstrate proficiency in SQL for effective database management, data migration, and complex querying tasks that inform decision-making.
Show familiarity with Python for automating data processes, API integrations, and supporting the development of AI prototypes that enhance program delivery.
Have experience with government digital health systems and their integration into organizational workflows to ensure compliance and interoperability.
Show knowledge of configuring and managing field data collection platforms like KoboToolbox and CommCare to support real-time data gathering.
Possess a solid grasp of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies, including the ability to document technical requirements and designs comprehensively.

This position operates in a hybrid work environment and reports directly to the Digital Transformation Director.
