The position of centers on architecting and operating the engineering organization necessary to deliver scalable business impact. In this role, you will shape the technical and cultural foundations that allow our employee platform to serve millions of users across France and Brazil. Your responsibilities will span strategic technical guidance, people leadership, and the establishment of resilient operational practices. You will work alongside the CTO, other Directors, and business stakeholders to ensure engineering efforts are aligned with overarching company goals. The success of this position will be measured by your capacity to transform business objectives into durable technology outcomes while fostering a high-performing, sustainable engineering culture.
The role is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of our employee platform, which touches Human Resources, Fintech, Travel, and Employee Benefits. You will guide how solutions are conceived and built to serve both employees and clients in these distinct domains. A core part of your mandate involves translating complex business goals into coherent engineering direction. This translation ensures that product vision is converted into actionable technical strategies. Your decisions will directly influence how teams release value safely, maintain system reliability, and uphold long-term code quality. You will establish the guardrails that allow innovation to occur without compromising stability or security.
Swile operates in dynamic markets in France and Brazil, serving over 5.5 million users within 80,000 companies. The platform touches critical aspects of professional life, including financial services, travel management, and human resources. As the Engineering Director, you will ensure the technology infrastructure keeps pace with this scale and complexity. You will design intake workflows that capture detailed product requirements and convert them into clear engineering tasks. This process is vital for setting unambiguous expectations and preventing scope creep. You will also establish robust build practices that turn specifications into reliable, production-grade services.
Maintaining high standards of quality is essential when serving millions of users across multiple countries. You will coordinate review rituals designed to uphold code quality while preserving team velocity. The goal is to eliminate bottlenecks without sacrificing thoroughness. Orchestrating ship activities will be another key responsibility, ensuring releases are safe, observable, and aligned with business priorities in every market. You will forge strong partnerships with internal stakeholders to clarify needs and manage expectations. This collaboration is necessary to keep delivery predictable and transparent for all parties.
Technical leadership will require balancing difficult trade-offs between speed and sustainability. The role is based in Montpellier, France. It is a permanent position that requires at least three years of experience in a senior leadership role managing engineers and delivery. Candidates must possess hands-on experience with modern backend systems and distributed architectures. A deep understanding of HR, Fintech, Travel, and Benefits domains is necessary to guide product decisions effectively. You must be fluent in both French and English during discussions, documentation, and planning. Comfort with ambiguous problems and evolving requirements in a fast-moving environment is essential.
While not mandatory, experience in fintech, travel, or HR platforms is considered helpful. Proficiency with the tools and contexts of Fintech, Travel, HR, and Employee Benefits across France and Brazil is expected. Please What you'll do
