About the role
We are seeking a passionate engineer to join our small, focused team dedicated to the development of Supabase Lite, a TypeScript-native version of Supabase. This role provides a unique opportunity to take ownership of significant components of the project, allowing you to influence the product's direction and make impactful contributions from the ground up.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Enhance API compatibility to ensure that Supabase Lite mirrors the experience of the hosted Supabase, maintaining consistency through automated testing processes.
- Integrate additional Supabase features to function seamlessly with SQLite, expanding the capabilities of the platform.
- Develop and streamline the migration process for users transitioning from Supabase Lite to the complete Supabase platform, ensuring a smooth user experience.
- Improve the overall developer experience by refining command-line tools, local development resources, and comprehensive documentation.
- Create and stabilize a cost-efficient hosted version of Supabase Lite, designed to operate with minimal resource consumption.
- Collaborate closely with early adopters to gather feedback and address any integration challenges they may face.
- Engage with the broader Supabase community by contributing to open-source initiatives and projects.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to ensure Supabase Lite remains competitive and innovative.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during development and deployment, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Document technical processes and decisions to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team and the wider community.
- Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding product strategy and feature prioritization.
Requirements
- Proven experience in backend or full-stack development, with a strong command of TypeScript.
- Demonstrated ability to build or contribute to backend systems, frameworks, or developer platforms effectively.
- Versatile skill set that enables you to navigate various technical layers, from API design to infrastructure management.
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending unfamiliar codebases, including the ability to adapt logic from different programming languages.
- Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases, with a keen interest in the differences between Postgres and SQLite.
- A strong commitment to precision and compatibility, employing tests and specifications to ensure functionality is validated.
- A proactive problem-solving mindset, focused on finding efficient and simplified solutions within constrained environments.
- A dedication to enhancing developer experience, emphasizing clear APIs, rapid feedback loops, and user-friendly tools.
- Comfort with ambiguity and the dynamics of early-stage projects, making informed decisions that guide product direction.
- Experience collaborating in public repositories within a remote, asynchronous team environment.
- Exceptional written communication skills, enabling clear and effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
