This Manager, Engineering position for Storable Marine is centered on owning the complete lifecycle of digital solutions for the marine industry. You will be responsible for transforming intricate marina and dock operations into streamlined, dependable digital workflows that stakeholders can trust. What you'll do
- Translate complex stakeholder narratives from marina operators into clear, testable product requirements that reflect real operational constraints.
- Define build tactics and architectural patterns that convert legacy monolithic modules into resilient, distributed services using Node, React, TypeScript, PHP, and select .NET components.
- Drive rigorous review rituals where design documents and production code are examined deeply, with observability, security, and regulatory compliance evaluated in every discussion.
- Champion ship-shape practices that automate testing suites, enable safe and frequent deployments, and ensure incidents are rare, well documented, and handled with precision.
- Forge strong partnerships with Product Management, Operations teams, and global offices to ensure digital services accurately mirror the workflows of marinas, docks, and yacht clubs.
- Establish and maintain guardrails for AI-assisted development, ensuring that generated code is thoroughly reviewed for correctness, security vulnerabilities, and long-term maintainability.
- Coach engineering contributors on the effective use of tools such as Copilot, Cursor, and ChatGPT, balancing rapid delivery with careful judgment in production environments.
- Lead incident response and reliability initiatives in collaboration with DevOps partners, working continuously to reduce downtime and improve cost efficiency across marine operations.
- Translate high-level business objectives into concrete roadmaps, metrics, and milestones that keep distributed teams aligned and stakeholders fully informed.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a diverse engineering crew, fostering an environment of learning, collaboration, and responsible integration of AI tools into daily workflows.
- Own the prioritization and sequencing of work items so that critical fixes, regulatory updates, and strategic initiatives are delivered on schedule.
- Monitor the performance and health of cloud-native services, using data to guide optimizations that improve reliability and user satisfaction.
- Ensure that all engineering practices respect the unique regulatory, uptime, and data integrity considerations inherent in waterfront businesses.
- Act as a technical thought partner to leadership, providing insight into risks, trade-offs, and opportunities for innovation in the marine technology space.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across teams through documentation, brown-bag sessions, and collaborative design discussions.
Requirements
You must possess hands-on experience managing software delivery for a SaaS product that serves marine operators, as this context is essential for understanding the domain challenges. This background provides the necessary perspective for the distinctive workflows of waterfront businesses. You need at least 3 to 5 years of experience leading engineering teams while remaining actively engaged in architecture and code reviews. A strong understanding of cloud platforms, modern data stores, and proven methods to secure and scale web applications is required for this role. You must communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences across United States and global offices, demonstrating empathy and precision in your messaging. Respect for how regulations, uptime requirements, and data integrity shape decision-making for businesses operating on the water is mandatory. You should be comfortable navigating ambiguous requirements and driving toward solutions that balance speed, compliance, and operational stability. A demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and create inclusive, high-performing teams is essential for success in this position.
Nice to have
Experience with rental, payment, and membership features for complex operators is helpful and considered a preferred addition to your background. Mastery of the core skills and tools used in this role, including Node, React, TypeScript, PHP, .NET, MMS, SaaS, CI/CD, observability platforms, and AI-assisted workflows, is highly valued. These technical foundations are necessary to evaluate designs in detail and to guide the team with confidence and precision.
