Software Engineer II, RVC
Job description
.
About the role
Storable is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our RV & Camping (RVC) Division and help build the Newbook Websites product, the software behind the customer-facing, booking-enabled websites that RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks, and other outdoor hospitality businesses use to showcase their properties and take reservations online. Our Newbook platform supports the workflows operators rely on to manage sites and accommodation, reservations and online bookings, guest and vehicle records, point of sale, payments and billing, digital waivers and agreements, housekeeping and maintenance, reporting, and other industry-specific needs. The ideal candidate uses AI coding tools as a meaningful part of their day-to-day work, leveraging them to explore unfamiliar codebases, accelerate implementation, generate and refine tests, debug issues, weigh implementation options, improve documentation, and reduce repetitive engineering tasks while applying sound judgment to validate correctness, security, and maintainability before anything ships. This is a role for someone who combines solid software engineering fundamentals with an AI-native approach to building software, and you should be comfortable using tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI-assisted development platforms as a normal part of your daily workflow, with clear examples of how these tools have improved your speed, quality, decision-making, or technical output.
Key facts
What you'll do
Develop new features and improvements for the Newbook Websites product, building and maintaining custom WordPress themes, plugins, and integrations that connect operator websites to the Newbook platform and booking flows.
Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, documentation, technical discovery, and design work across the full lifecycle of feature delivery.
Apply solid engineering fundamentals when reviewing AI-generated code to ensure correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with WordPress and system architecture standards.
Build reliable frontend experiences with modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, applying React where appropriate for more interactive components while remaining focused on WordPress-based implementation.
Integrate WordPress with the Newbook platform and third-party services via REST APIs, webhooks, and the WordPress REST API to enable seamless data exchange and booking workflows.
Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams when application work touches CI/CD pipelines, AWS services, deployment workflows, monitoring, or reliability concerns to ensure smooth operation and scalability.
Help reduce technical debt through thoughtful refactoring and incremental improvements to the themes, plugins, and code you work in, balancing quick wins with sustainable long-term solutions.
Care about performance, observability, and user experience, translating operator needs into reliable software that enhances the booking journey and operational efficiency for outdoor hospitality businesses.
Contribute to a culture of quality and craftsmanship by writing tests, documenting decisions, and sharing knowledge with cross-functional partners to elevate the overall standard of the Newbook Websites product.
Take ownership of your work from conception through deployment, actively seeking feedback, iterating based on real-world usage, and continuously improving both the technology and processes that power the Newbook Websites platform.
Requirements
Demonstrate hands-on experience building and maintaining production WordPress systems, with a strong track record of delivering reliable features and fixes within real-world environments.
Possess solid software engineering fundamentals, including proficiency in algorithms, data structures, and design patterns that apply to both traditional software and WordPress-based systems.
Have direct, practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms, with examples showing how they improved your work.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, with an understanding of how to structure WordPress themes, plugins, and integrations for long-term scalability and ease of maintenance.
Understand modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and be able to build frontend interfaces that work effectively within the WordPress ecosystem and integrate with external APIs.
Comfortably work with REST APIs, webhooks, and JSON-based data exchanges to connect WordPress applications with external services and internal platform components.
Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating business requirements into technical solutions and providing status updates in a collaborative team environment.
Have a strong sense of ownership and accountability, taking initiative to solve problems end-to-end and following through on commitments in a fast-paced, product-driven setting.
Nice to have
Experience contributing to open source projects or community-driven software efforts, particularly in the WordPress ecosystem.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD tooling, and deployment processes for web applications, especially within AWS-based environments.
Background working with hospitality, outdoor recreation, or reservation-focused software, and an understanding of the operational needs of RV parks and campgrounds.
