Sourcing Manager (Raptor)

In this pivotal position, you will oversee the supply chain strategy for the Raptor engine components, particularly focusing on complex machined parts and forgings. Your primary objective will be to enhance cost efficiency, foster supplier development, and scale production to align with our vision of enabling life beyond Earth. This role necessitates a strong onsite presence, facilitating high-level collaboration among engineering teams, production units, and external suppliers.

What you'll do

• Formulate and implement sourcing strategies for various materials, including sheet metal and aerospace components, to optimize procurement processes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, overseeing the RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
• Conduct thorough analyses of spending patterns, supplier capacity, and technical capabilities to negotiate favorable terms and maintain a steady supply chain.
• Keep track of inventory levels and synchronize vendor deliveries with MRP demand forecasts to prevent shortages or excess stock.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and facilitate the introduction of new products into production.
• Perform onsite evaluations of suppliers to gauge their operational efficiency and production capabilities, ensuring they meet our standards.
• Prepare and present commodity roadmaps and value propositions to internal stakeholders, providing insights into sourcing strategies and supplier performance.
• Drive initiatives for cost reduction and efficiency improvements across the supply chain, aligning with the company's broader objectives.
• Monitor market trends and technological advancements to inform sourcing decisions and maintain a competitive edge.
• Lead cross-functional teams to address supply chain challenges and implement solutions that enhance operational performance.
• Document and report on sourcing activities, supplier performance, and market conditions to senior management.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging data analytics to streamline processes and enhance supplier collaboration.

Requirements

• A master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience, or a total of 9 years of experience in fields such as engineering, purchasing, contract negotiation, operations, or supply chain management.
• Willingness and ability to work onsite in Hawthorne, CA.
• Compliance with ITAR regulations is mandatory; candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
• Proven experience in managing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts effectively.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey complex information clearly.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with complex machined components, forgings, or raw materials specifically within the aerospace sector or high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and fabrication specifications.
• Experience in new product introduction processes and mass production settings, contributing to a smoother transition from design to manufacturing.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, SQL, and Access for data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of contract negotiation techniques and cost control strategies to manage budgets effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on analytical thinking to address supply chain challenges.

• Travel requirements for this position may reach up to 15%.
