About the role
This position is centered on the oversight and enhancement of RF filter production processes that directly support the Starlink satellite constellation and critical defense communications programs. You will operate within the Akoustis subsidiary, applying rigorous engineering methods to monitor, analyze, and refine manufacturing workflows. The primary focus is on driving measurable gains in production yield, product quality, and overall operational efficiency. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end process validation lifecycle for assigned product lines. You will act as the technical authority responsible for translating process specifications into stable, repeatable manufacturing steps. Furthermore, you will partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that manufacturing outputs consistently meet stringent performance and reliability standards. Your work will directly influence the throughput and quality of components essential to large-scale satellite and defense systems. This role demands a disciplined approach to data and a proactive mindset toward solving complex manufacturing challenges in a high-growth environment.

What you'll do
- Execute systematic methodologies to elevate production yield and operational throughput across assigned work centers.
- Interpret complex manufacturing data streams to detect subtle process deviations and lead targeted root cause investigations.
- Design and conduct structured design of experiments to map variable interactions and refine critical process parameters.
- Implement corrective actions to reduce process variation and drive consistent improvements in product quality and reliability.
- Partner with operations and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment issues and qualify new processes for production release.
- Perform detailed audits of work center SPC charts and safeguard the integrity of process specifications and OCAP documentation.
- Develop and deliver training programs for technicians and operators to ensure strict adherence to updated procedures and standards.
- Champion the enforcement of safety and quality protocols within demanding cleanroom environments.
- Liaise with supply chain and engineering teams to manage material specifications and ensure process capability aligns with design intent.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that optimize cycle times, reduce waste, and enhance resource utilization.
- Apply advanced metrology tools and failure analysis techniques to diagnose defects and validate process robustness.
- Support the execution of technology transfer activities between development and high-volume manufacturing teams.
- Lead cross-functional projects that require coordination of timelines, resources, and technical deliverables.
- Maintain meticulous technical documentation that captures process changes, justifications, and validation results.
- Contribute to the development of long-term manufacturing roadmaps that align with product evolution and strategic goals.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in physics or engineering from an accredited institution.
- Possess a minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with statistical process control methodologies or semiconductor fabrication practices.
- Acceptable experience includes academic projects, internship roles, or extracurricular activities that demonstrate practical application.
- Must satisfy ITAR requirements by being a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
- Demonstrate the ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, to support critical production milestones.
- Show a strong commitment to safety compliance and quality standards in regulated manufacturing settings.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal formats to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Nice to have
- Hold an advanced degree in electrical, chemical, or materials engineering, microelectronics, nanotechnology, physics, or chemistry.
- Bring direct experience with metrology tools, failure analysis methods, and high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Show proficiency in the use of JMP, KLayout, and standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Possess working knowledge of 8D problem-solving, design of experiments, SPC, and risk or change management frameworks.
- Have a track record of leading tool installations or managing cross-functional engineering projects.
- Demonstrate background in conducting quality audits and executing yield improvement programs.
- Familiarity with RF filter technologies and cleanroom discipline is highly valued.

This is a full-time, 100% onsite role based in Canandaigua, New York.
