About the role
As a CNC Programmer at SpaceX, you will play a role in advancing space technology through innovative programming and machining solutions. Your contributions will directly impact the development of hardware used in satellite launches, crew transport to the International Space Station, and human exploration missions beyond our planet. This position requires you to enhance and refine machining processes for both existing and future vehicle components, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

What you'll do
- Create and generate G-Code using CAM software tailored for Okuma mill-turn lathes and mills, with an emphasis on optimizing multi-axis operations.
- Design and enhance tooling and process setup documentation for new components, leveraging insights from previous projects.
- Independently set up, validate, and operate programs on Okuma machinery, effectively troubleshooting to reduce downtime.
- Contribute to the development of a CAM database aimed at streamlining programming efforts and analyze data to enhance repeatability.
- Address part inspection quality issues by leading root-cause investigations and implementing necessary corrective measures.
- Evaluate parts for Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and collaborate with engineering teams to suggest drawing modifications.
- Incorporate feedback from engineering and production teams to facilitate rapid iterations on processes and designs, while also mentoring less experienced programmers.
- Engage in ongoing education to remain updated on advancements in manufacturing technologies, integrating new knowledge into existing workflows.
- Actively manage product flow, identify bottlenecks in production, and propose actionable solutions to management.
- Uphold 5S principles and maintain electronic organization in line with SpaceX standards, contributing to the development and enforcement of team-wide protocols.
- Work collaboratively with other SpaceX machine shops to share resources, optimize capabilities, and address scheduling conflicts.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC machining is essential.
- At least 2 years of experience specifically in CNC programming is required.
- Must be able to work 2nd shifts (starting at either 12:00 PM or 3:00 PM), as well as overtime and weekends when necessary.
- Capability to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance is needed.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and controls is essential.
- Willingness to work in environments with loud machinery and exposure to coolants, solvents, and cleaning agents is necessary.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees, or must be eligible to secure necessary U.S. Department of State authorizations due to ITAR regulations.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with advanced machining techniques and equipment, including the integration of automation, is advantageous.
- Experience with CNC programming using CAM software and custom post-processing is a plus.
- A solid understanding of geometry, algebra, and trigonometry for complex part designs is beneficial.
- Experience in accurately interpreting blueprints and understanding all drawing criteria, including GD&T, is preferred.
- Knowledge of Okuma OSP controls and troubleshooting multi-axis operations is a plus.
- Background in programming multi-axis lathes and mills, particularly in 4- and 5-axis applications, is desirable.
- A proven track record of assessing performance, seeking feedback, pursuing training opportunities, and sharing knowledge is beneficial.
- A proactive attitude towards quality improvement, with a history of accuracy and process enhancements, is preferred.
- Experience in drafting detailed procedural documents, such as safety protocols and operating manuals, is a plus.
- Strong communication skills for both routine and technical interactions across teams are essential.
