CNC Machinist (Raptor Combustion Devices & Valves)

About the role

You will operate, setup, and program edit CNC machines, and flight hardware needed to achieve Raptor program rate targets. You will perform precision set-ups of various CNC machines on state-of-the-art assets (DMG, Nigata, Heller). You will prioritize daily work to ensure ensure high machine uptime across the assigned shop / area. You will manage cutting tools in CNC machines to ensure that machines have the needed cutting tools loaded and measured before they are called in upcoming programs. You will perform on and off machine deburr of hardware to contribute consistent quality of parts. You will operate clean line equipment, CMM, borescope, and general part finishing according to requirements. You will perform CNC machine preventative maintenance on a weekly and monthly basis. You will maintain the shop in terms of chip bins, oils, greases, 5S, and general upkeep activities. You will remain flexible in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, and support teammates however possible. You will complete work instructions and test plans to document needed data throughout each process. You will introduce fresh ideas in machining, fixturing and tooling approach for optimal efficiency.

CNC Machinist / Level 1: $23.00 - $27.00/hour

CNC Machinist / Level 2: $26.00 - $32.50/hour

CNC Machinist / Level 3: $31.00 - $38.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

What you'll do

Operate CNC machinery to produce Raptor combustion devices and valves while adhering to strict quality standards.

Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to ensure precise machining of combustion device components.

Set up and calibrate CNC machines including DMG, Nigata, and Heller equipment for optimal production runs.

Manage cutting tool inventories and perform tool changes to sustain high machine uptime and minimize downtime.

Perform manual deburring and finishing operations to achieve consistent part quality and surface integrity.

Conduct inspections using CMM, borescopes, and other gauging tools to verify conformance to specifications.

Execute scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on CNC assets to uphold machine reliability and performance.

Maintain a clean and organized shop environment by managing chip bins, oils, greases, and 5S standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional teammates in a fast-paced environment to support production goals.

Document all processes and test results through work instructions and test plans to ensure traceability and compliance.

Introduce innovative machining, fixturing, and tooling techniques to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times.

Support shop operations by remaining flexible and assisting with various tasks as production demands evolve.

Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality procedures while operating equipment and handling materials.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing throughput and part quality.

Perform root cause analysis on machining defects and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency certificate.

1+ years of experience in CNC machining.

Must be capable of lifting 35 lbs. unassisted.

Must be capable of standing and kneeling for 8 hours.

Ability to use physical and repetitive movements such as bending or twisting, using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.

Ability to be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting.

Read accurately, write clearly, and perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately.

Experience in shop math, tooling technology, blueprint reading, and measurement of parts.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Strong interpersonal skills including, but not limited to, contributing to a team-oriented environment, balancing the team, and individual responsibilities.

Capable and or has the capacity to learn all assets in the shop.

Able and willing to cross train their peers and or to be cross trained by their peers.

Nice to have

3+ years of experience operating CNC machinery.

Proficient knowledge in high efficiency milling and turning.

Experience in shop math, tooling technology, blueprint reading, and measurement of parts.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position based in Hawthorne, California.

The role requires the ability to stand and kneel for extended periods and to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted.
