About the role

SpaceX is actively seeking a skilled CNC Programmer to join the Starlink team and contribute directly to the production of critical satellite infrastructure with a specific focus on tool and die applications. In this capacity, you will be responsible for creating, optimizing, and validating complex machining programs that ensure the highest standards of precision and efficiency. The role demands a high level of technical proficiency in managing intricate workflows related to complex surfacing, contour machining, and the specialized programming of graphite electrodes. You will work in close collaboration with experienced machinists, cross-functional engineering teams, and operations leadership to translate design intent into reliable manufacturing processes. What you'll do

• Develop detailed CNC programs using the full suite of NX CAD/CAM/CAE software tools to support precision manufacturing.
• Execute thorough Vericut simulations on all NC files and maintain rigorous version control for programs and associated setup documentation.
• Analyze and select optimal carbide tooling configurations and rigorously optimize speeds and feeds to maximize tool life and process stability.
• Proactively recommend design modifications that significantly enhance manufacturability, reduce cycle times, and improve part quality.
• Construct and assemble fixture tooling in strict accordance with established process documentation and quality standards.
• Set up and operate a variety of CNC machines with a focus on accuracy, safety, and adherence to procedural guidelines.
• Relentlessly pursue productivity targets while promptly flagging any blockers or deviations to leadership for swift resolution.
• Contribute actionable ideas for continuous process improvements that enhance throughput and reduce waste.
• Perform complex programming tasks specifically for multi-axis milling and turning operations that support advanced aerospace components.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace that adheres to safety protocols and supports efficient workflow.
• Document all programming changes and decisions to ensure traceability and support future troubleshooting efforts.
• Collaborate with inspection teams to verify that finished parts meet stringent dimensional and surface finish requirements.
• Support the machining of graphite electrodes with precision and an understanding of unique material properties.
• Mentor less experienced team members on best practices for programming and machine operation where appropriate.

Requirements

• Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent certification as a minimum educational qualification.
• Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of proven CNC programming experience with a demonstrated history of using NX software.
• Have hands-on experience specifically programming graphite electrodes in a production environment.
• Be capable of lifting 25 pounds unaided as part of regular job duties.
• Possess the physical capability to stand, climb, bend, stoop, and carry materials as required by the operational environment.
• Be available to work the 1st shift schedule, working hours from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, as required by operational needs.
• Be available to work the 2nd shift schedule, working hours from 3:30 pm to 2:00 am, including occasional overtime and weekend shifts when necessary.
• 2nd shift employees are required to onboard during standard hours and to occasionally attend meetings scheduled during the 1st shift to ensure cross-team coordination.
• Maintain the ability to work effectively in a dynamic manufacturing environment that may require rapid adaptation to changing priorities.
• Comply with all company safety protocols and quality management systems without exception.
• Be authorized to work in the country of employment without requiring sponsorship, or be capable of obtaining the necessary work authorization.
• Pass all pre-employment screening and background checks as mandated by company policy.

Nice to have

• Bring 5 or more years of CNC programming experience utilizing NX on complex projects.
• Demonstrate background and competence in programming and operating multi-axis milling and turning CNC equipment.
• Have direct experience in tool and die work that involves complex surfacing and advanced contour machining techniques.

Skills & tools

• Expertise in NX CAD/CAM/CAE software is essential for success in this role.
• Proficiency with Vericut software for simulation and verification of NC programs is required.
• Strong knowledge of carbide tooling selection and the ability to tune parameters for optimal performance.
• Experience operating multi-axis mill and lathe equipment is highly valued.
• Familiarity with graphite electrode machining processes and associated challenges is a significant asset.

Practical notes

• The compensation for this role is structured as an hourly rate with defined pay ranges. Level 1 positions range from $33.00 to $39.00 per hour. Level 2 positions offer a range of $37.00 to $44.00 per hour. Level 3 positions provide a range of $41.00 to $50.00 per hour. The specific level and corresponding rate are determined based on the relevant knowledge, education, and experience of the candidate.
• Additional forms of compensation may be available and include company stock grants, long-term cash awards, discretionary bonuses, and access to a discounted Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
