Head of Humanities
SOLFL is a conscious education initiative dedicated to cultivating intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligence. Our first learning center, SOLFL עץ חיים, is a K-12 Miami Torah Earth School. It delivers a rigorous, multi-disciplinary program that blends hands-on, experiential learning with ecology, creative expression, entrepreneurship, and spiritual practice. The school guides students away from conventional classroom settings, desks, and screens, immersing them in direct, real-world experiences. This in-real-life model is designed to nurture the impact entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
About the Role
We are seeking a Head of Humanities to lead, design, and teach a rigorous, multi-disciplinary program for students in Grades 6-12. The program's objective is the true integration and application of knowledge, replacing rote memorization. Instruction will weave humanities with environmental solutionism in the Middle School and impact entrepreneurship in the High School.
Core Responsibilities
Program Leadership (ELA & History)
You will design and lead a cohesive English Language Arts and History program spanning Grades 6-12. This involves establishing clear standards for writing, reading, discussion, and historical thinking. You will build a progression that moves students from foundational literacy in Middle School toward advanced reasoning and articulation in High School. All efforts will ensure alignment with accredited academic standards while preserving SOLFL's distinct educational philosophy.
Instruction Across Grades 6-12
You will teach ELA and History to both middle and high school students. Leading seminars, writing workshops, and discussions that develop depth of thought will be central. You must adapt instruction to different developmental stages without lowering academic rigor.
ELA: Language as a Tool for Thought & Leadership
The curriculum will develop students' ability to read deeply, write clearly, and speak effectively. Writing is taught as a tool for persuasion, clarity, and original thinking. Students will be guided in constructing arguments, narratives, and structured ideas. Precision, coherence, and intellectual honesty in all forms of expression will be emphasized.
History: The Evolution of Ideas & Civilization
History will be taught as the development of human thought, culture, and systems. The approach moves beyond memorization toward understanding cause, consequence, and worldview. Learning will be anchored in primary sources, speeches, and foundational texts. Students will be helped to connect historical ideas to present-day systems and future possibilities.
Integration with Impact Entrepreneurship
You will support students in articulating their ventures, ideas, and visions with clarity. The curriculum will reinforce that no meaningful innovation exists without clear thinking and communication. Historical and cultural understanding will be connected to real-world problem solving.
Culture & Intellectual Environment
You will build a classroom culture of rigor, curiosity, and thoughtful discourse. Facilitating discussions that challenge assumptions and deepen perspective will be key. A consistently high bar for clarity, depth, and precision will be maintained.
Assessment & Feedback
You will design assessments including essays, presentations, debates, and portfolios. Feedback must be actionable and focused on the quality of thinking and expression. Clear communication with families regarding student growth is essential.
What You'll Do
You will design daily lesson arcs that guide students from foundational reading into complex historical analysis and public speaking. You will craft writing assignments where pupils construct arguments, narratives, and structured ideas with precision and intellectual honesty. You will sequence skills so literacy and historical thinking grow from middle school foundations toward high school articulation. You will orchestrate seminars and workshops that demand depth of thought while honoring varied developmental stages. You will teach history as the evolution of human thought, using primary sources and foundational texts to reveal cause and consequence. You will connect historical case studies to present-day systems, inviting students to see culture as a living design project. You will support entrepreneurs by helping youth articulate ventures, clarify vision, and defend ideas with coherent language. You will assess growth through essays, debates, and portfolios, then provide feedback that sharpens reasoning and expression.
Requirements
You hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in humanities or related fields. You bring four years of teaching experience with middle or high school learners. You can design lessons that meet accredited standards without relying on rote methods. You work with digital tools for communication while keeping screen time grounded in real interaction.
Nice to Have
Experience in earth-centered, experiential, or entrepreneurial education models.
