Job description
The Educator
This page outlines the role of the Upper Elementary Lead Educator at SOLFL. The position serves a specific learning community dedicated to conscious education. Our school exists to cultivate intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligence through a tangible, in-real-life environment.
About SOLFL
SOLFL represents a new movement in conscious education. Our first school, SOLFL עץ חיים, operates as a K-12 Miami Torah Earth School. We deliver a rigorous, multi-disciplinary curriculum that fuses hands-on, experiential learning with entrepreneurship, ecology, creative expressions, and spiritual practice. The mission is to transition children from traditional classrooms, desks, and screens into the real world. This is an irl school designed to cultivate the impact entrepreneurs of the future require.
About the Role
We are seeking an Upper Elementary Lead Educator for Grades 4-5. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in progressive education, inquiry-based learning, and child-centered pedagogy. Experience in settings influenced by Bank Street, Project-Based Learning (PBL), Expeditionary Learning, and place-based education is essential. These models emphasize active learning, deep thinking, and authentic engagement.
You will lead a mixed-grade learning community where students pursue meaningful questions. They will engage in interdisciplinary projects, develop academic mastery, and cultivate the habits of thoughtful, responsible citizenship. More than a classroom teacher, you are a designer of experiences, a facilitator of inquiry, a mentor, and a builder of community.
Core Responsibilities
You will design meaningful learning experiences that are substantial and purposeful. This involves developing and facilitating interdisciplinary units and projects integrating literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, ecology, entrepreneurship, and the arts. You will create authentic learning experiences rooted in real-world questions, local community connections, and meaningful student interests. Your curriculum will balance academic rigor with creativity, exploration, and student agency. You will connect learning to nature, place, culture, and current issues whenever possible.
Fostering inquiry and deep thinking is central to this role. You will cultivate a classroom culture driven by curiosity, investigation, reflection, and dialogue. You will guide students through research, observation, questioning, experimentation, and problem-solving. You will support students in developing critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. You will facilitate meaningful discussions that encourage perspective-taking, empathy, and intellectual risk-taking.
Supporting diverse learners is a key duty. You will differentiate instruction using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and best practices. You will create multiple pathways for students to access content, demonstrate understanding, and engage meaningfully in learning. You will use ongoing observation, assessment, and student feedback to personalize instruction. You will collaborate with colleagues and families to support each learner's growth.
Developing independent learners is a primary focus. You will teach executive functioning, self-management, organization, planning, and reflection skills. You will support students in setting goals, tracking progress, and taking ownership of their learning. You will help students develop confidence, resilience, responsibility, and self-awareness.
Building community is fundamental. You will foster a joyful, inclusive classroom culture where every student feels seen, valued, and challenged. You will develop strong partnerships with families through ongoing communication and collaboration. You will contribute positively to the broader life of the school and participate in curriculum design, exhibitions, community events, and school initiatives.

You will shape review rituals that surface student thinking, highlight growth, and refine collective understanding.
You will orchestrate shipping moments where projects move into the community, demonstrating applied skills. You will forge partner links with local stewards, artisans, and entrepreneurs to extend classroom ventures outward. You will map constraints using UDL frameworks to ensure access points for varied learners and abilities. You will champion ownership by coaching learners to track data, set goals, and narrate their evolving journey.
Requirements
