Position Overview
SOLFL is a pioneering institution in conscious education, dedicated to the cultivation of intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligence. Our flagship campus, SOLFL עץ חיים, operates as a K-12 Miami Torah Earth School. We deliver a rigorous, multi-disciplinary curriculum that fuses hands-on, experiential learning with entrepreneurship, ecological stewardship, creative expression, and spiritual practice. Our mission is to transition students from traditional classroom and screen-based environments into tangible, real-world experiences. This is an irl (in real life) school designed to nurture the impact entrepreneurs of the future. The Head of Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering plays a central role in this vision, leading high school academics and department innovation.
Location and Engagement
This position is based in Miami, Florida. It is a salaried, full-time role. The compensation range is $130,000 to $160,000 USD per year.
Core Mission and Instructional Leadership
The Head of Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering is responsible for the academic vision and development of the high school curriculum in mathematics, physics, and applied engineering. This role requires a balance of direct instruction and strategic leadership. The incumbent will teach high school mathematics, covering Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics. Instruction must be rigorous, fostering student confidence and fluency while demonstrating the practical utility of mathematics in real-world contexts.
Physics instruction must connect abstract concepts to tangible systems, including motion, forces, energy, and product development. The role demands the integration of engineering thinking to support real-world application and problem-solving.
Design Studio and Real-World Application
A critical function is leadership within the Design Studio, the school's arena for product development and innovation. The Head of Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering will guide students in applying mathematical and physical principles to design, prototyping, testing, and iteration. This involves helping students use quantitative and technical reasoning to address design challenges and advance their in-real-life ventures. Collaboration with other faculty is essential to ensure that academic content robustly supports interdisciplinary project outcomes.
Departmental Administration and Governance
The Department Head is responsible for the full administration of the mathematics, physics, and engineering division. This includes lesson planning, assessment design, grading protocols, and meticulous documentation of student progress. The role requires a highly systemized approach to work, strong project management capabilities, and rigorous academic governance. The Head must ensure consistent standards, clear execution, and reliable follow-through across the department.
Curriculum Development and Innovation
This position is tasked with collaborating on the design and creation of the high school mathematics curriculum. The Head will support the development of integrated learning projects that connect mathematical concepts to entrepreneurship and engineering. There is a specific charge to strengthen the role of mathematical and technical thinking across the school. This includes contributing to middle school program integration to ensure seamless Math pathways that prepare students for advanced study.
Technology and Future-Focused Learning
Comfort with and interest in technology, robotics, and AI is highly desirable. The Head of Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering is expected to bring practical thinking around these emerging technologies into the learning environment. This includes helping students understand the relationship between core academic subjects and technological innovation. The incumbent should contribute ideas and initiatives that strengthen future-facing, real-world Math and technical education at SOLFL.
Qualifications and Attributes
Candidates must demonstrate mastery of high school mathematics, physics, and engineering principles. Proven experience in secondary education, curriculum design, and department leadership is required. A passion for experiential learning and an entrepreneurial mindset is essential. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with exceptional organizational and communication skills, capable of fostering a collaborative faculty environment.
