Silver is a fintech startup building a buy-now-pay-later platform aimed at expanding credit access for people in Venezuela. The team is searching for a Senior Backend Engineer who takes full ownership of backend systems rather than isolated services, someone who understands that correctness, resilience, and performance are the core responsibilities of the role. This position works closely with Product and other engineering teams, shaping how the platform scales as the user base continues to grow, and it demands hands-on coding, architectural decision-making, and direct accountability for production service behavior, with the organization valuing engineers who go deeper into their craft, set higher standards for those around them, and continuously improve the systems they work on.

What you'll do

• Architect and implement backend services using Node.js and the NestJS framework built on top of Express.
• Develop high-throughput RESTful APIs that serve as reliable foundations for other engineering teams to build upon.
• Engineer financial transaction pipelines with idempotency, reconciliation logic, retry mechanisms, and clearly defined failure states.
• Design relational data models in PostgreSQL, prioritizing query performance, data integrity, and long-term maintainability.
• Lead architectural decision-making and clearly document the reasoning behind each trade-off and design choice.
• Take end-to-end responsibility for service health, including monitoring, deployments, and incident response in production.
• Elevate code quality across the team through thorough code reviews, collaborative pairing sessions, and establishing clear technical standards.
• Guide junior engineers through mentorship and contribute meaningfully to technical discussions that shape the platform's direction.
• Juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup setting where timelines shift frequently and adaptability is essential.
• Build production-grade distributed systems where correctness, resilience, and fault tolerance are non-negotiable requirements.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, or demonstrate equivalent hands-on experience.
• Bring 5 or more years of backend engineering experience with strong command of Node.js and NestJS built on Express.
• Have a proven record of designing and operating RESTful APIs in live production environments at scale.
• Possess advanced understanding of relational database systems, with PostgreSQL being the preferred and expected technology.
• Write unit tests and integration tests as an integral part of the development workflow and delivery process.
• Understand software design principles and common architectural patterns at a deep and practical level.
• Show a history of delivering features independently while maintaining service reliability under tight and shifting deadlines.
• Communicate complex technical ideas in a clear and accessible manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and a genuine interest in exploring new technologies, tools, and engineering approaches.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform as a cloud infrastructure provider for hosting and operations.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes for deployment workflows.
• Prior work with message brokers or queuing systems such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Google Pub/Sub.
• Background in financial technology, payment processing, or credit-related product development in a production environment.
• Fluency in both Spanish and English for effective cross-functional collaboration within a multilingual team.

Practical notes

• The interview process includes a Silver screening round followed by a technical system design interview.
